when the silence began to take over

"You really think this is a good idea? I mean-- they did leave for a reason."

I shook my head, ignoring Spencer and Elijah's advice as I got into my Uber.

"I just need to talk to her."

"Jay, man--"

"Look, I'll see you guys at the hotel."

After cutting Elijah off, I rolled up my window, and the driver took off.

There was only one destination for me: I needed to see the only person who could make sense of the mess in my head.

After the short drive to Taylor's house, I stepped out of the car, immediately stumbling as I felt the last few shots finally hit me.

I teetered towards the front door, using my spare key to open it. The first door was actually a facade, leading to the small garden in front of the main house.

I was going to let myself into the main house, but for some reason, I stopped myself; I don't know, it felt like I would just be barging in.

Instead, I rang the doorbell, waiting about a minute for Taylor to open the door.

When she did, I couldn't stop the smile that found its way onto my face; she was wearing one of my old shirts, and the way it engulfed her was adorable as she put her hand on her hip.

"Jay, what are you doing here?"

I gave her a little shrug before I put my hands in my pockets, realizing I hadn't thought this plan all the way through.

I didn't think she was gonna be home, so instead of having an actual speech prepared, I said the first thing that popped into my head.

"Came to see the love of my life."

She rolled her eyes and sighed as she looked up at me, eyeing me knowingly.

"You're drunk."

Besides the two shots and beer I had as she left, I ended up downing five or six more shots, so I knew there was no point in lying.

"Yeah, well... someone wasn't there to meet me shot-for-shot."

I brushed past her as I walked into the house, heading for the kitchen.

I heard the door close and felt Taylor following behind me as I made my way upstairs, noticing a few photos of McKenna on the wall, making my heart soar.
