While Jared took a shower, I sat up in bed, racking my brain, trying to figure out what the hell had just happened.

I couldn't believe it; the one thing I've wanted in four years finally happens just in time for him to get married tomorrow?!

What was I thinking?

How could I have been so stupid?

The past two hours had been amazing, but he's gonna get dressed and go back to her and I wasn't sure if I could handle that.

I threw my shirt back over my body, not bothering to put my panties back on, and dragged my passion-riddled self down the stairs.

As I opened another bottle of wine, I bitterly chuckled to myself, thinking it was going to be a longer night than I originally thought.

A few months had passed, and I was really getting used to the restaurant life.

Grayson's was a busy-paced restaurant, and the money was good. What was even more amazing was the crew I got to work with; everyone was super cool.

After Friday night at work, everyone went to Jackal's, the local late-night spot for people in the restaurant industry.

Since McKenna was spending the weekend with her dad, I decided to join.

I stuck to just a glass of hard cider, knowing I never really partied and didn't wanna get too wasted.

"So, Taylor, what's your story? I mean, we know you go to the local CC, but other than that, what are you into? Like... What's a typical Friday night like for you?"

Cheyenne, one of the bartenders, had just returned from the restroom and taken her seat across from me. There were a bunch of us sitting at a long table and suddenly everyone's attention was on me as I shrugged.

"I don't know... probably working on some homework or hanging out with my daughter. She's at her grandparents' this weekend, so..."

"Holy shit, you've got a kid?!"

I smiled, locking eyes with a shocked Keegan. His eyebrows knit together in confusion and he leaned forward as I picked my phone up off of the table.

"McKenna... yeah, she's almost two."

I held up my phone, showing off the picture I had as my lock screen.

Cheyenne reached over and grabbed my phone, gushing as she looked at the photo

Cheyenne reached over and grabbed my phone, gushing as she looked at the photo.

"Oh, my God. She's fucking adorable!"

I decided to head home early, feeling a little tired, and was surprised to have Keegan offer to walk me to my car.

"Tonight was fun."

I smiled at Keegan's laid-back nature; he was probably the nicest person at Grayson's and I was always super excited when we worked the same shift.

"Soooo...."

I glanced over, watching as Keegan stuffed his hands in the front pockets of his jeans, straightening his arms as he took large, deliberate steps.

"Soooo...?"

"Well, I noticed you didn't really mention your daughter's father... I guess I was just wondering-- are you guys still together or..."

As we made it over to my car, I bit my lip a little, hiding a sad smile as I shook my head and began to fish my keys out of my purse.

"No, we're uh-- we're not together anymore."

Keegan's blue eyes flickered and he flashed his perfect smile as he nervously ran a hand through his blonde hair.

"Do you, maybe, wanna hang out tomorrow?"

I smiled shyly, looking up at Keegan, whose face was etched in hope.

Keegan was cute, funny, and really nice.

I just... I wasn't even sure if I was ready to date yet.

"I can't, I'm sorry. I've got a buttload of math homework to finish and it's definitely not my favorite subject."

"Well, if you want... I could help. I'm a math major. I'm actually working on linear equations."

"Linnie-whats? That just went way over my head."

His head cocked back and he chuckled deep from his gut.

"Then it kinda sounds like you need me. Come on, Tay. I'll even throw in pizza. My treat."

I smirked a little, knowing he knew that I loved to eat.

"Well, since you put it that way..."

We both laughed a little, and he let out a deep breath that I didn't realize he was holding.

"Cool... cool. Text me your address and I'll swing by around... one?"
