-Christian's P.O.V-
"Happy Birthday," I finally breathe.
"Thanks," he responds happily.
"Guys," Kim speaks up, "we need candles."
"Where did this cake even come from?" I ask.
"It was outside your door," Kaydan says. "It's been there for awhile."
"Really?"
He nods.
"He's oblivious to things placed in plain sight," Kim steps in. "He can hear pretty well though, which seems to make up for it."
"Don't I know it," he mumbles.
"You've experienced it too, huh?"
"Yeah. He tends to use it when-"
"-It's most convenient to him?" She finishes for him.
He nods, stifling a laugh.
"Are you guys done talking about me?" I ask.
"Oh, you're still here? Where are the candles?"
"I don't have any."
She sighs clearly upset. "What am I suppose to do now?"
"Go to sleep," I groan.
"The cake is going to go to waste!"
I close my eyes frustrated. "Just put it in the fridge. I'll buy you some candles in the morning."
"Really?" She squeals.
"Sure."
"In that case, I'm off to bed!" She picks up the cake and puts it in the fridge. Then she finds a change of clothes in her bag and heads to the guestroom. "Night Chris, night Kay," she yawns reaching for the doorknob.
"It's Christian."
"Whatever Chris," she finishes closing the door.
I growl lowly before turning to look at Kaydan. "Did you think of any more ideas?"
"For what?" He asks puzzled.
"Me sleeping."
"Oh! No, sorry. It's been a pretty hectic day," he laughs nervously.
"So..."
"Up we go."
"You don't want to go change?"
He pulls on the hem of his T-shirt, which I just notice he's wearing.
...Since when...
He smirks tiredly, and follows me up the stairs.
I sit on my side of the bed and reach my hands out, grabbing him by the waist.
"H-Hey!" He stammers quietly, not to disturb Kimberley I assume.
I lift him up and sit him on my lap, with his back facing me. The more he tries to push away, the tighter I wrap my arms around him.
He finally gives up with a huff of frustration. "What?"
I rest my chin on his shoulder before asking, "How was your day?"
"F-Fine, I guess?" He answers confused.
"Work too?"
"I actually have the whole week off!" He cheers.
"Really?"
"Yeah! The trainees are having a trial, but Luke didn't tell me until today, so I yelled at him a bit."
Oh, he probably went over to his house. That would explain his apparel...
"I see," I breathe.
"Why the sudden interest?" He asks.
"I was just curious as to how your birthday was."
He slowly nods. After seconds pass, he finally adds, "W-Well in that case, how was your birthday?"
I shrug. "I spent the whole day in here trying to keep Kimberley out."
"You didn't go outside at all?"
I shake my head. "I don't usually celebrate it anyway."
"You have to do something!"
"I already did."
"Which was?"
"...I'm tired. I want to go to sleep."
He turns and narrows his eyes at me. "Don't avoid the question."
I'm not sure who noticed how close our faces were first. I glanced down at his lips for an instant, then back to his eyes. He mirrored my actions a second afterward, then turned a dark shade of red.
"N-Now that I think about it, I'm tired too!" He quickly exclaims rolling off of me onto his side of the bed. "G-G-Good night!" He pulls the covers over him and turns his back to me.
I click off my lamp and pull the covers over me next, slipping my hand underneath his waist, connecting it with my second one. I can tell his breathing instantly stops. As soon as it does, my heartbeat intensifies. "...Yeah. Good night," I finish kissing him behind the ear.
His entire body shakes.
I bring him in a little closer, and lightly kiss the same spot again.
He shakes slightly harder than last time. "C- Christian, st-"
I slowly begin to place more kisses on the back of his neck, moving my hands underneath his shirt.
He inhales sharply, bringing his hands to mine.
I stop immediately, withdrawing my hands. "Sorry," I whisper before I jump out of my bed and down the stairs.
What the hell am I doing?
I quickly make my way to the couch downstairs and plop down onto it.
I'll just cool off here for a bit.
I ended up never going back upstairs.
-Kaydan's P.O.V-
I wake up then sit up instantly. I turn to my side and see that Christian wasn't there.
I shyly scratch the back of my neck.
He's probably okay.
I toss the covers off of me and head into his bathroom. My stuff was still there, so I brushed my teeth and washed my face before heading downstairs.
Christian was in the kitchen and Kim was laying on the couch.
"What time is it?" I ask yawning loudly.
"Good morning to you too," Kim responds sitting up. "It's around 10."
"It's 11:03," Christian cuts in, bringing Kim a mug of coffee.
"I was still close," she mutters.
He stops in front of me. "Good morning."
I keep my eyes level to his chest, not daring to look any higher. "Yeah. Morning."
He turns and heads back into the kitchen and gets out more coffee beans.
So he's just going to act like nothing happened then? Fine by me.
"Chris, stop with the coffee, that's your tenth cup!" Kim yells.
"I'm tired. Leave me alone," he retorts.
I walk over to sit by Kim and steal a glance at Christian.
He has minor bags under his eyes and his complexion is slightly pale.
Did he not get enough sleep?
Once I sit down Kim smiles at me. "Watch this," she mouths. "Hey Chris, can you get me some cereal?"
He sighs loudly. He stops what he's doing and walks to the pantry.
Kim nudges me to watch. I turn and sit on my knees, watching intently. Mini confetti cannons go off, as he opens the door.
He pauses for a second, unfazed, then continues inside to get the cereal. Once he grabs the box he closes the door with his foot and gets a bowl. He opens it and begins to pour it inside. After four shakes, a golden Rolex watch falls into the bowl. He stares at in silence before he gets milk out of the fridge and pours it in the cereal.
"What are you doing?" Kim shouts going to meet him in the kitchen.
"What?" He groans.
"That's your birthday present!"
"Oh."
It's quiet for awhile.
"Do you still want your cereal?" He continues.
"I want you to say thank you!"
"Thank you."
She glares at him. "When are you getting my candles?"
"What does that have to do with your cereal?"
"No one is talking about the cereal anymore!"
"I am. I just wasted a whole bowl of it."
"Christian!"
"I'm not getting your stupid candles. I don't even like cake."
"Well it's not only your cake, remember?"
They both look at me.
"H-Huh?" I stammer.
"Do you want candles on your cake?" Kim asks.
"If you want-"
"See?" She shoots at Christian. "He clearly said if you-"
"Hurry up, Kay!" She cuts him off.
"Okay," I say still confused. I get up and head over to my apartment. I jump in the shower and change into a green T-shirt, and jeans. I grab my keys and leave my apartment, shutting my door to lock it. In that instant Christian meets me in the hallway.
"Sup?" I question.
"I'm coming with you," he replies.
"I'll be fine," I laugh slightly.
"That wasn't a question. I'm coming." My smile instantly drops.
Yup. Like nothing happened.
"...Fine, but I'm driving."
"Fine."
He follows me to my car and gets into my passenger seat. I jump in the driver's and head into the street.
Shit...where the hell is it?
"Left," Christian mumbles.
I take a left at the first light. When I make it to the next one he doesn't say anything.
Straight I'm assuming?
I continue down the road until he tells me to make another left. With his directions we finally arrive in five minutes. Once I turn off my car, he's out in an instant.
I should at least thank him.
I get out and close my door. "Hey Christian..." I begin. When I look up he's half was across the parking lot. "...You can't be serious..." I run to catch up to him.
"You're too slow," he states. "Let's hurry up and get the candles."
We walk inside side-by-side and I stop.
"What now?" He asks.
"I'm obviously just going to slow you down, so you can go get them without me. I'll just wait here."
He narrows his eyes at me. "I never said that."
"Well I'm irritating you somehow, aren't I?" "Never said that either."
"Just go get the candles."
"Come with me."
"No."
He exhales deeply before hoisting me up and throwing my waist over his shoulder. "If you want to be treated like a kid, I'll treat you like a kid."
"What are you doing?" I exclaim embarrassed.
"Carrying you."
"Christian!" I yell.
"Shut up, you're making a scene," he begins walking.
"O-Oh, I'm making a scene?"
"Yeah."
I cover my face to hide it from shocked onlookers. When we walk down the cake ingredients aisle he stops. "...P-Please put me down," I whisper.
On command he places me of the floor.
"Wh-what was that about!" I scream.
"I wasn't going to leave you by yourself at the front of the store. Pick your candles."
I continue to stare at him, but finally shake my head and ask, "...Which ones do you want?"
"They're for you, not me."
"Yeah, but it's our cake. We should both at least enjoy the candles."
"Kaydan, get the candles you want." "What's your favorite color?"
"I don't have one."
"That's a lie."
He gives me a stone, cold look.
"...Or not..." I sigh. "Do you like anything?"
He shrugs. "Not really."
"There is no way you like nothing."
"Okay."
"God, you're making this way more difficult than it needs to be."
"What's your favorite color?" He asks.
"Probably green," I answer without thinking. "See? Easy."
He grabs a fifty pack of green candles. "Yeah, problem solved. Let's go."
"W-Wait!" I exclaim.
"What?"
"I want something else too."
"What?"
"A-A thing." I turn on my heel and down the isle.
I'm gunna get this brat a gift so good he'll cry. Likes nothing my ass.
I was already down the tenth aisle. He hasn't stopped to look at anything.
"What do you want?" I mentally yell at him. "What?" He asks clueless as ever. "Nothing," I mutter.
There has to be something!
When we reach the end, the whole left section of the store is covered in clothes. I look at him. "They sell clothes?"
He nods.
This. Is. Perfect.
I rush over to the shirts and begin looking at them one by one. I keep glancing at him periodically. He isn't even looking in my direction.
...Are you kidding me?
I stop at a blue flannel shirt. It looks perfect. I can't stop staring. A shadow looms over me and grabs the shirt. I turn around and see Christian. "What are you-"
"You want this right?" He questions. "W-Well Yeah, but-"
"Alright, let's go."
"Wait!" I chase him down.
He spins on his heel, causing me to run into his chest. "Yes?"
"Uh...I don't want it."
He stares at me hard. "...I'm getting it."
"No!"
He goes to the front, pays for everything then gets into my car.
I slam my car door and fold my arms.
"What's wrong with you?"
"I told you not to by the stupid shirt," I pout.
"If it's so stupid, why did you look at it for so long?"
"Cause! I was going to get it for you!" He stares at my puzzled. "What?"
"I wanted to get you a gift, you idiot!" "...Oh," he breaths.
"Whatever, let's just-"
He leans over me and plants his lips on mine. He brings his hand up to my face and cups my cheek, then pulls back slowly, pinching it. "Happy now?"
I stare at him dazed.
"Are we heading home, or what?" He asks sitting back. "I'm tired."
"S-Sure,." I buckle up and head back with the help of his instruction.
We open the door and walk in. I run into Kim, knocking her back. "Sorry!" I stutter grabbing her before she could hit the ground.
"It's fine," she rushes. "I have to go."
"What about your candles?" Christian questions.
"Save them for me. I need to go pick up some papers, bye!" She kisses me on the cheek, then gets on her tiptoes to kiss Christian, and runs out the door leaving me and him alone.
