Chapter 7

Author's POV

It had been a few weeks since the Wens and Wei Wuxian had arrived at the burial mounds, though the soils of the mounds were not really fit for farming, they tried anyway. After a lot of trial and error, they were finally able to grow radishes!

During their stay, Wei Wuxian had gotten closer to the Wen's and had thought of them as his own family, he even started referring to Wen Qing as 'Qing-jie and A-Ning to Wen Ning once he can finally figure out how to bring him back

He had also adopted young Wen Yuan as his own, often referring to him with the affectionate name of 'my little radish' or 'A-Yuan'

He had always been great with kids, after all, he was the head disciple of Yummeng Jiang! he trained children on a daily basis...at least when everyone was still alive...he quickly shook himself out of his stupor when he heard his name being called by none other than A-Yuan.

"A-Yuan! my little radish, did you miss Xian-gege?" he laughed and picked the child up his face was graced with a bright and beautiful smile while his eyes shone with pure joy, he looked so happy and relaxed when he was with the Wen's.

Lan Shizhui didn't remember much of his childhood and was slowly gaining his memories, it added further to his grief when he saw how lovingly the man treated him, always keeping him close to his chest.

Yet...he said such horrible things to him that day, his friends noticing his grief scooted closer to him in an effort to comfort him, a gesture he very much appreciated.

Lan Wangji was brought further into sorrow when he saw his beloved so happy, the happiness he himself had destroyed not even a few months ago.

Speaking of Wen Ning, the boy was still unconscious and Wei Wuxian was working his hardest. He spent sleepless nights and days figuring out a solution and making talismans, usually causing him to not sleep for a considerable amount of time, or until unless Wen Qing or Fayre Yang came and knocked him out, either with a book or needles.

The lack of resources at the burial mounds came to no surprise to anyone, so Wei Wuxian being the self-sacrificing idiot told the Wen's he would eat in his cave, and instead he would skip said meals so the others could have some more.

Or he put more food in A-Yuan's or some of the elder's bowls when he thought no one was looking causing his already injured and weak self even more harm. It wasn't until he passed out from exhaustion and hunger that Wen Qing stomped her foot and forced him to eat with the rest of the Wen's.

Her statement caused Wei Wuxian to pout and complain "but Qing-jieeeeeeee" he tried his best to convince her but she would not budge only glaring at him with firm eyes, but Wei Wuxian could see the concern in them so he reluctantly agreed but he continued to give his food to little A-Yuan or the elders pretending he didn't notice Wen Qing's glare.

When he wasn't in his cave cooped up, he was playing with A-Yuan by burying him in the soil and telling him he will grow taller and more A-Yuan's will sprout. Usually, this ended up with him facing the wrath of Wen Qing alone with Fayre Yang laughing her butt off in the side, his 'punishment' would end up with him farming radishes or washing clothes with a pout.
