Chapter 31

Author's POV

It had been a few days since the grand banquet and currently Wei Wuxian resided in the mortal world, staying temporarily with Wen Qing, Wen Ning, and his uncles. They had a sort of set routine where once everyone had awoken (Wei Wuxian usually had to be dragged out of bed) they would have breakfast together before visiting Baoshan Sanren at her abode. After spending a few hours chatting with the immortal, the group would fly around the forest and town seeing if anyone need help. After which dinner would be had and usually if not completely drained, they would chatter about old memories, things they saw, or just random things before going to bed.

Fayre Yang was currently away in the heavens working on something, the two were separated for the first time in a long time, of course it was temporary but still it felt weird to the both of them, as if a part of them was missing. For Fayre, it felt weird to not waking up with leg thrown over her and warm arms trapping her, it felt weird to go into ghost city and not having to hold Wei Wuxian so he doesn't go running like a child (as adorable as it was, she really did not want to spend hours looking for her brother)

As for Wei Wuxian it just felt weird not having Fayre laugh with him and add to his corny jokes, it felt almost downright wrong to enjoy noodles without her, as usually the two would make it a competition on different things, such as who can eat the most, who can eat the fastest, the best one, who can slurp the best while making funny faces. They certainly got...looks...for it, but as always, Wuxian would laugh and say "life is short! might as well make the most of it"

That is not to say that he did not adore the time spent with his family in the mortal world, he missed Qing-jie's fond (scary) scolding's, A-Ning's shy and enduring nature, uncle Xingchen's warm and fussiness, and uncle Lan's silent but warm care, it felt like home to be with these people.

Besides, A-Fayre would be back soon anyways. 'ah...I still miss her, haha maybe i'm too clingy' Wei Wuxian had insecurities, that was something he admitted to, and truly considering his past it was no surprise, although his family have done everything they can to help him heal, never once giving up on him. Somethings are just difficult to ever recover from. He was truly greatful for them, honestly Wei Wuxian did not know where he would be if not for his beloved yet a bit crazy family.

Shaking himself out of these depressing and cheezy thoughts, Wuxian decided to go on a walk the clear his head, there was still time to dinner as everyone had returned early this time and were busy with their own work.

Surely nothing could go wrong in a small walk right?

Ok he takes it back desperately because, fuck everything could go wrong, in fact everything had gone wrong.

Wei Wuxian was currently trying his best not to have a panic attack because right in front of him, stood the very stars of his nightmares. Lan Wangji, Jiang Cheng, Lan Xichen, the Juniors, hell even the Nie siblings stood in front of him, they two sides started in a tense, awkward silence.

Wei Wuxian honestly felt hysterical because this feels like deja-vu and he is NOT here for it. Unfortunately none of his family is here to help and he does not know what to do because on one side he is afraid of these people (the scars on his body still hurt thinking about that day) and never wants to see them again, but on the other side, some part deep inside him still cares about them even though he has every right to and probably should despise them. They have broken him in a way he could never heal back to, but these people were once a part of those he loved and was loyal to, once he would and has given his life, his everything to them only to be spit on and walked over on again and again and again.
