Chapter 15

Author's POV

The room sat in silence with a chilly atmosphere, now that the truth was revealed there was so much to unpack.

Jin Zixuan's death was never Wei Wuxian's fault, Wen Qing and Wen Ning sacrificed themselves hoping that their family would be spared, and made an agreement with their lives as a price, and yet...they disregarded that agreement and still killed the innocent, how shameful.

Wen Qing and Wen Ning were feeling mixed emotions as they watched Wei Wuxian cry out for them, they knew he would be pained at their decision and it hurt them to leave him but they didn't have a choice. In the end, their sacrifice meant nothing because Wei Wuxian and the rest of the Wens still died.

She hates these people, they went back on their word and dishonored their promise, they made her brother A-Ying suffer. They destroyed his life and took A-Yuan's Xian-gege away from him, forcing him to suffer grief and loss at such a young age.

Wen Ning felt the same as his sister, they both along with the Wens truly loved Wei Wuxian like he was their own. He gave up everything for them without hesitation because he knew they were innocent because his heart was good. He loved them and cared for them even in his own misery, they knew how much he was suffering and wished they could do better.

All these sects don't deserve to call themselves righteous and fair when they were the complete opposite. Wen Ning remembered the kindness of Ying-ge had given them, his gentle smiles and cheerful laugh that made his Jie happy and A-Yuan clap with joy.

He remembers how hard Ying-ge worked to bring him back, to make sure he could be comfortable, and to try and get him to feel again, often overworking himself. The times in the burial mounds were not easy by any means but Ying-ge made them enjoyable, finding the brightness even in the darkest situation.

Jiang Yanli sobbed in her sleeves, seeing her Xianxian so helpless hurt, it reminded her of the time when their father first brought him home. Her poor brother had looked so terrified and happy at the same time, she remembers soothing him after they had witnessed the arguments between her father and mother. The distaste her mother had shown towards her A-Xian, he always had that same helpless and despaired look in his eyes and it always gave her pain.

She felt anger at the world, she knew her brother would never dare hurt her husband, she knew he loved her and would do anything to make her happy even if it means accepting her husband, which he did and even started to see him as his own brother. She tried to tell the others but they never listened to her and pined the blame on her A-Xian instead. The truth came out and look who is in the wrong now.

She was incredibly grateful to the Wens for making her A-Xian happy, she saw it in his eyes even when she visited him, he looked weak and ill but there was a shine in his eyes, the Wens had made him feel loved and happy. Something she couldn't make him feel at that time.

She remembers what Lady Yang had said in their last session, every time her brother feels the tiniest bit of happiness the world cruelly rips it away from him, and yet he always stays happy and kind, not a single wisp of hate ever tainted his precious soul.

She looks at the Wen siblings who are close together trying to soothe each other and looked back at her brother who held A-Yuan in his arms while being surrounded by the Wens, he was distressed and upset but also relieved to see the rest of them safe.
