Trouble
"Sorry?"
My forehead creased as I stared at her from head to toe. She was wearing a peach crop top and mom jeans and thought she was in her twenties, college student ang isang 'to.
"Hindi po ba kayo si Sonnet?" she repeated. She was asking me too fiercely. Bahagya ring nakataas ang kilay niya.
"I'm Sonnet, how did you know... my name?" I asked. I can't remember talking with this lady before, she seems unfamiliar to me.
I wonder how she knew my name.
She smiled while my forehead remained creasing.
"Lei, Lei Gueverra."
My lips parted as I stared for a couple of seconds at her. A smile slowly curved on my lips.
"Lei?" I uttered and she nodded.
I stood up from my chair and gave her a warm hug.
"I'm glad... because I knew you survived. You've survived," I added.
I knew she survived. She's been in battle against cancer for years and seeing her today proves that she survived.
I was about to pat her head when she interrupted me. Nawala ang ngiti ko nang mapansin naiilang siya sa akin.
"Uhm... ni-approach lang po kita kasi may sasabihin sana ako sa 'yo," wika niya at nahalata ko ang pagkaalinlangan niya.
Mahinang kumunot ang noo ko.
"Go on," I answered and faked a smile.
I can see that she changed... a lot.
The Lei I used to know was a sweet kid but the Lei in front of me was the opposite.
"Alam niyo po bang sobrang nagdusa si Nanong dahil sa'yo?" biglang pagtatanong niya.
Labis na kumunot ang noo ko habang tinitingnan siyang blanko ang mukha pero may galit sa mga mata nito.
"Huh"
"So sana if ever na magkita kayong dalawa, iwasan mo siya," she added which made me swallowed.
"What do you mean?" wala sa sariling tanong ko.
I don't get it. First, I don't have any intention of meeting her brother. Second, why would ignore him? And what? Because her brother suffered too much? What in the world?
I know it's been years, but I didn't expect this.
"Hindi imposibleng magkita kayong dalawa. Sobrang hirap ang dinanas niya simula no'ng maghiwalay kayo. Bilang kapatid, hinihiling ko na sana hindi na 'yon maulit. Kaya... iwasan mo siya," she explained.
I gasped as I sighed.
"What if I don't?" sagot ko sa kanya. Binigyan niya lang ako ng malamyang tingin.
"Bakit? Mahal mo pa ba siya? Hindi ba boyfriend mo 'yon?" wika niya at tinuro si Jace na palapit na sa direksyon namin habang bitbit ang tray ng pagkain.
"I don't have any reasons to ignore your brother," dagdag ko sa kanya.
She smirked which creeped me out. "Hindi ka parin po talaga nagbabago."
"Sonnet."
Napalingon ako kay Jace na lumapit sa akin. Ngumiti siya kay Lei at gano'n din si Lei sa kanya.
"Jace nga pala," pagpapakilala ni Jace sa kanya. Inilahad pa ni Jace ang kamay niya.
"Lei," Lei answered and accepted Jace's hand.
