A/N: I honestly feel like I haven't posted in weeks but it's only been a few days...

School T^T

In any case, here it is. I might edit this chapter in the future if I ever figure out a better way to write it and have the time.

Happy reading :D

"Oof..."

I rubbed my cheeks which were still red and sore from last night.

"Uuuu..."

...Did she have to be so rough?

I grumbled inwardly as I massaged the sore tissues.

...Even my back hurts.

I continued to complain in my thoughts as I slowly waddled forward.

As I traversed the passageway, I took note of my surroundings. The more and more I progressed through the old, yet refined hallway, the fewer and fewer candles were set up.

I breathed in and noticed the musty yet clean air seemingly thinning as I went on.

After some time, candlelight no longer illuminated the halls. Instead, the light of the sun breathed into the shadowy corridor.

I stood a distance away from it amidst the enshrouding darkness. Beyond me, the sunlight spilled in, making a scene reminiscent of the light at the end of the tunnel.

...Kind of like when I was reborn.

I closed my eyes and recalled the inky darkness from over 6 years ago.

An unpleasant feeling spread out through my body.

Even now, the feeling of uncertainty, of being unaware of what was going to happen to me, was still deeply entrenched into my psyche.

The abyss that surrounded me.

The void of nothingness.

...The fear of not knowing my immediate future.

"..."

I swallowed the saliva pooled in my mouth and recalled the me from back then.

...How I had pretty much lost it, doing my best to accept and deny what was happening, my death, despite my inability to do both.

It was the first time I realized just how terrifying death really was.

These thoughts began flooding my mind as hands of shadows began grabbing me.

"... Aren't you gonna go?"

"!"

The sudden voice caused me to jolt, breaking me out of my thoughts.

"...?"

I turned around and looked at the elves behind me; the elf, Elrie, who had called out to me standing in front of them all.

"..."

I stared blankly at them before turning back to the light that incinerated the darkness.

"..."

...Right.

I smiled.

There was light at the end of the tunnel, a light that led to a new chapter, a new segment of my life.

My smile deepened.

I never feared death, and I wasn't going to start fearing it now.

I was Arias— no. I was Asher Aureus.
