A sickening crack echoed throughout the deserted city. Yang had just cleaved a Beowolf's spine in twain with her left gauntlet. The boy watched from the third floor of a ruined office building. His face was one of disgust from the horrendous sound of the Grimm's spine being shattered.
He quickly dragged his attention away from the field of corpses slowly disintegrating into ash and towards the screen that had formed to his left.[Automatic update commencing...]
{Alpha ver. 0.1 ... Latest Version}As if the update had only patched a few bugs, it finished after a couple of seconds. But it did a bit more than get rid of any glitches, it had purged nearly half of the system.

While not knowing the exact modifiers would be a bit of an inconvenience, Saffron supposed that as long as he was aware of where he stood among other hunters, he should be fine.
An odd side-effect of the new system, was that without all of the unnecessary sections on his status sheet, such as allegiance, Saffron felt oddly refreshed. The brief thought of his own brain being used as some sort of GPU was interesting, but quickly became disturbing when the boy wondered: What if his brain was dissected would the system be extracted and used for commercial use? Maybe it would become a military weapon. Or it would be monopolized, like Saffron had been doing since he got the system, but it could very well go into the hands of someone much more sinister than Saffron... kind of hard to do, considering he cackled like a maniac the last time his stats increased.Saffron got up from the pile of rubble he was sitting upon and made his way to the edge of the building. He dropped down on top of a Beowolf corpse, one of the various Grimm the four girls were fighting.
The corpse turned to ash and the boy landed on the concrete with a small tap. This wave of Grimm had been cleared out by the girls just as Saffron awoke from his "reboot."
"Hey, Doc. You know, I was looking forward to seeing a pro Huntsman in action, like fighting. Or at least helping us fight." Yang told Dr. Oobleck.
"And you were blanking out the whole time! What the heck was that about?!" She pointed at Saffron in an exaggerated fashion.
Saffron said nothing. He simply smiled and shrugged at the blonde Huntress. He felt calm and relaxed, likely a result of his uncluttered mind."Ah, but I am in action!" The doctor exclaimed. "Scouring the ruins of this once great city for any signs of irregularity!" He turned around to address the four. "Not every mission is filled with daring and heroism girls. Sometimes it's just a heightened form of extermination!" He stated.
"Remember! This is a job. And you all signed up for it." He said quickly. He had glanced towards Saffron when he spoke, which did not go unseen by the boy.
"Well, yeah." Yang glanced to the side awkwardly before a look from Weiss told her to rephrase her words. "O-of course!"
Dr. Oobleck took his time cornering each member of Team RWBY and asking them why they became Huntresses. Saffron took note of their answers, Yang was adventurous, Weiss wanted to uphold the legacy of her family, and Blake wanted to be some sort of hero, but she was naïve.
Eventually, Oobleck found his way to Saffron. The doctor asked the boy the question he had been waiting for.
