Chapter 10 Ricochet

We scurried back to the training room. Alec had said he had an "idea" about something. I believe it has something to do with finding my gift.

Alec stood in the center of the room again. Amelia was near the door, and I was somewhere in between them. Once again, I kept telling myself to not fall on my face.

"You said that you could always come up with something to say, correct?" he confirmed.

"Yes, why?" I asked in confusion.

"Focus on letting energy out, or pushing away what ever comes at you."

I did as he instructed. I let my mind go into a zone. "Push everything away." I thought to myself.

Then, I saw Alec's dark mist be extracted from his palms. It was creeping towards me. It looked so mysterious, yet frightening.

Once the mist was nearly on top of me, I began to think about pushing things away again. I focused on the mist and thought of pushing it away.

Almost immediately, a white, hazy, bubble- like aura formed around my whole body. Alec's mist, that was now only inches away from me, hit the aura, and it almost looked like bounced off of it.

After ricocheting off my barely visible, white force field, the mist then began to creep back to Alec, but at a much quicker pace. His eyes widened in shock. Before his own gift could touch him, he pulled all of it back into his hands. "Fascinating," was all he said before motioning for us to follow him.

I assumed that the masters were finished with their meeting by now. We walked into the throne room. Only Aro, Caius, and Marcus were in there.

"Back again, are we?" Aro asked with a welcoming smile. His happy faces were really getting on my nerves at this point. Doesn't he have any other emotions other than happy or surprised?

Alec placed his hand in Aro's, telling him what happened. "Amazing!" Aro exclaimed. "May I see your hand?" he asked me.

Alec looked at me, telling me to show him what I've got. I nodded to him and placed my hand in Aro's.

As soon as our skin made contact, I put my power into gear. This time, the white aura did not come from my body. Nothing that I noticed happened. Aro's facial expression said quite the opposite.

Aro's P.O.V.

Alec just showed me the most remarkable thing. Thalia's gift is indeed useful.

I held Thalia's hand in hope to see it from her perspective. Instead, something very strange happened.

"Now, lets see what Miss Martinez did." I thought to myself, as I began to try to read her mind. Instead of hearing her thoughts, I heard my own. "Now, lets see what Miss Martinez did." My very own thought echoed inside my mind. It caught me by surprise at first, but soon realized she was showing me what she can do.

"Remarkable!" I said with excitement.

"What is it, Aro?" Caius asked impatiently. I had forgotten that I did tell Caius and Marcus what was going on.

"Thalia has a very... individual gift. It is as if your own power defies you." I told them. "It is quite strange. I heard my own thoughts echo in my head. Well done, Thalia."

She smiled at me. "Thank you, master," she replied.

Amelia's P.O.V.

I'm so happy for Thalia. I would have felt horribly bad if I went on with my power, while she was still searching for hers. I have to admit, her gift is pretty damn cool. It looked amazing when Alec's mist ricocheted off of her aura, and began to make its way to its controller.

Aro just found out about our discovery, and was praising her for it.

"We'll done, Thalia." He said.

"Thank you, master," she replied.

"Alec, well done on figuring out what to do. I praise you for that." Aro said turning to the boy.

Alec nodded his head. "Thank you, master."

"So, Thalia, it appears to be that when you use your gift, the forcefield only shows itself when it's a physical attack." Aro stated. Okay, so it shows up when the gift that's attacking her is physical, but not when it's mental. Okay? "I wonder... if your gift is an actual physical shield. Shall me see? Alec."

Right after he said that, Alec followed his orders. He lunged at Thalia. I could tell she was thinking of pushing him away from herself. She probably imagined him ricocheting off my her body like it was stronger than iron.

Unfortunately, it didn't seem to be working. Alec was able to throw her back to one of the white, marble walls, and pin her there.

"Very interesting." Marcus said. Wow, that's a first, Marcus actually said something.

"Yes, brother. It is very interesting." Aro agreed. "Your gift only works on others gifts."

There was an awkward silence for the next few minutes. It looked like everyone was lost in thought.

Finally, Aro said, "You three may go. I believe we are finished here."

"Yes, master." We all said together. We exited the beautiful throne room. Now, all Thalia and I needed to do was wait for Jane to come back. Hopefully, she would be more fun to talk to than Alec.
