Narrator's POV
It didn't take too long for them to reach home, a fairly rich yet humble abode. It was homey and classy at the same time—a lovely combination, Taehyung would say.
The rest of the day till dinner was spent by the family catching up on recent happenings, small talks, many many hugs and kisses from Su-yeon and hair ruffles and back pats from Junghyun for the couple. The older woman had gotten a taste of just how stubborn and determined Taehyung could be when it came to it when dinner time was near and Taehyung had not been letting her do everything on her own. He had kept on insisting as she had already made a grand lunch for the boys— exactly as Jungkook had said.
"Your boyfriend is very stubborn and kind, Kookie. No wonder you both get along so well. What a perfect match," she had said, making both boys smile wide.
She didn't really have any other option than to give in and let Taehyung help her with today's dinner now. And when Jungkook came to help, both his boyfriend and his mother shooed him back to go hang out with his father and watch the television. And because Taehyung wasn't exactly the most immune to his sad, pouting face, he compromised and gave him the duty of setting up the table when the time came.
"Thank you, Taehyungie. I appreciate it a lot, you're such a good boy," she said, ruffling his hair a little and cupping his face, bringing him down a bit to kiss his forehead.
Smiling shyly and cheeks pink with happiness, the younger boy replied, "Eyyy, you shouldn't thank me, mum. I'm only doing what I'm supposed to!" as if it was the least thing he could do for Su-yeon.
They started preparing everything, Taehyung chopping all the necessary vegetables as Su-yeon prepared and cooked the meat. At one point, their conversation landed on the topic of childhood, Su-yeon rambling about how much of an adorable brat Jungkook used to be when he was little—running off to the neighbour's house only for them to find him playing with their puppy, the funny way he used to speak back then, how he used to yap to grab their attention and more.
Taehyung loved it. He absolutely adored every bit of what he was experiencing today. He still couldn't really believe this was how parents were supposed to be— loving, warm and funny. Of course he knew there were bad parts too, but he now understood that the bads should never outweigh the goods.
Family. He was glad that he was able to experience what families were like. He had come prepared for the slight uneasy feeling of being unwelcome, feeling like he would never quite belong; only for him to be pleasantly surprised with how welcome he felt, how filled with the sense of belonging he was. He felt as comfortable and loved with the Jeons as he used to with his grandparents. It was absolutely lovely.
As the conversation went on, with him adding in a little bit of his own positive childhood memories— Su-yeon gushed over how adorable it was that he used to chase butterflies, hide behind the curtains to eat sugar and 'teach' his grandparents the alphabets— they found themselves almost finishing making dinner, with only the plating and serving left to do.
Sniffing out the delicious aroma of bulgogi bibimbap wafting in the air, Jungkook and Junghyun got up from their seats on the sofa after turning the big screen off and then gathered in the kitchen, "Dinner done?" the older man asked.
"Yes honey, could you please set–"
"On it," the father and the son chorused.
Chuckling at how adorable that was, Taehyung started to plate the food and Su-yeon followed. "Your husband and son are adorable."
"Aren't they? I feel like the luckiest person sometimes," she smiled.
"You are, mum."
It didn't take long for them to gather round the table and start their dinner, the three males in the room humming in a 'good lord, this is absolutely fucking delicious' way, and Su-yeon chuckled when they expressed it through words before she said, "You should praise Tae too, he worked very hard to help me, you know?"
