Warm Embrace of a Mother

Nang makauwi kami ng araw na iyon ay dumiretso na kaming umuwi ni Andre sa bahay na binigay sa amin nina Tita Aurora. We had some of the appliances delivered for tomorrow. We also ate a take out dahil wala pa kaming nabibiling grocery para sa bahay.

It was out first time sleeping in the new house. It really felt empty and soulless at first since we still haven't personalized it. Hindi rin kami gaanong nagtatagal ni Andre doon dahil nasa condo pa namin ang mga gamit namin. We always leave early and go back to our own condos in the morning to get prepared for the day. So, we still end up going our separate ways.

Two weeks have already passed since we started buying things for the house. Tuwing uwian ay nauuna na akong umuwi kaysa kay na Nica at Jade at hindi na sumasama sa kanilang pupuntahan. I wanted to spend all of my free time moving some of my stuff inside the new house para hindi na rin ako mahirapan kakalipat-lipat ng lugar.

In the two weeks that I have spent transferring my things to the other house, I was finally successful to get all of my necessary things. Iniwan ko ang ibang bagay sa loob ng aking condo. It was another Saturday morning. Since wala akong pasok ay medyo late na akong nagising. It was already eight in the morning when I woke up.

Nang tumigin ako sa tabi ng kama ay wala na agad si Andre dito. Only the crumpled part of the white sheets were left behind where he slept last night. Has he gone to work again? I guess, he already did. His only rest is on Sundays.

Umupo ako sa kama at saka inayos ang aking buhok. I tied it in a messy bun as I stood up from my seat. Dumiretso ako sa banyo at saka nag-ayos ng aking sarili. I brushed my teeth and cleaned my face.

Habang palabas ng kuwarto ay napadaan ako sa malaking salamin sa aming pader. I looked at it as my eyes wandered around my body. I'm wearing my emerald colored satin pajamas but with shorts. Lumipat ang aking tingin sa aking mukha. I'm starting to gain weight. Now that I've been eating a lot and getting more cravings for food.

Itinaas ko ang aking damit at saka tinignan ang aking tiyan. I let my hands caress my small bump. In just a few more months, this baby will be out of me. Me, carrying it inside my hands, hugging it with my warm embrace. The warm of embrace of a mother.

I spent a few seconds staring at it until I decided to come downstairs. Kumunot ang aking noo nang makarinig ng maingay na bagay sa kusina. I quickly stepped down the stairs as I made my way to the other side of the house where the kitchen was. Nanlaki ang aking mga mata nang madatnan ang isang lalaking nakatayo sa harapan ng kalan.

"What the hell are you still doing in here, Andre?" tanong ko rito at tinignan ang kaniyang ginagawa. He was not wearing his uniform. He's wearing a normal shirt with his boxers on.

Agad naman itong napatingin sa akin. A wide smile appeared on his face as he looked back on the pan that he was holding. "Good morning too, Imo," bati nito. "You look like poison ivy," dagdag nito.

Kumunot ang aking noo nang marinig ang sinabi nito. Did he just compare me to a plant? "Poison ivy? The plant?" tanong ko habang unti-unting lumalapit dito.

"Orange hair, green clothes. Poison ivy, the character," sabi nito at tinuro pa ang aking buhok at damit.

I rolled my eyes at him as I sat on the chair opposite of where he was cooking on. He became a lot more playful around me the past few weeks. Didn't know that he actually had a side of him like this. "Why are you still here?" tanong ko rito.

"I don't have work for today, Imo," maiksi nitong sagot. "Aren't you glad? I'm home on a Saturday."

Nagkibit-balikat ako kasabay ng pagsilip sa kaniyang niluluto. He was cooking an egg and a few slices of bacon.
