Alex Ovechkin reached yet another milestone in his game against the Red Wings in Detroit on December 31st.

The left wing was tied with Dave Andreychuk's record of 274 power play goals. This was just Ovehckin's 6th power play goal this season. The goal was scored with just under 3 minutes left in  the third period. But what is even more interesting is that the goal was originally counted as an even strength goal. It was changed after a postgame timing review requested by Washington.

Ovechkin was sitting on the brink of making history for roughly 2 weeks. He scored No. 274 on December 15th in a loss to the Blackhawks.

While Ovechkin has made history this season, he still has a ways to go in the climbing ladder of overall career goals to pass Wayne Gretzky at 894 goals.

So far this season Alex sits at 24 goals just one behind Oilers's forward Leon Draisaitl, 25, for leading the NHL in goals this season.
