Monday night against the New York Islanders, Alex Ovechkin scores his 767th goal to pass to Jaromir Jagr for third place. Teammate Evgeny Kuznetsov won the face-off on the left dot, passing the puck back to Ovechkin for a snapshot that wet over the shoulder go goaltender Semyon Varlamov.
Ovechkin now only has Gordie Howe and Wayne Gretzky ahead of him in the race. He is within 34 of Howe and 127 of Gretzky. The question now isn't whether or not he will catch The Great One. The question is when will he.
Personally I hope that when Ovi does get that 895th goal, that the pass comes from Backstrom, it just seems fitting.
