John Tortorella goes from one Metropolitan team to another. Tortorella replaces Mike Yeo who was fired June 3rd. He most recently coached the Blue Jackets from 2015-2021.
Despite the fact that there are various opinions on Tortorella as a coach because of his style he has done some great things as coach. He let the Lightning to their first Stanley Cup in 2004 and then let the Blue Jackets to their first playoff series win in 2019 when they swept the Lightning.
Tortorella has been known to publicly do what other coaches may not. He has benched high profile players when they under perform. He has called reporters out on things during press conferences and questionings.
I think that with him in Philadelphia he is going to offer a different kind of coaching that can build Philly to where they've been in the past. He has a more aggressive coaching style that can be beneficial to also rebuild the Flyers. He is the kind of coach who really doesn't hold anything back in coaching, on and off the ice. I think, no matter what the opinions of him are, that he can make a difference in Philadelphia. He is a unique coach with a unique style.
