Henry Samuels

Throughout my fifty years of life, I have taken pride in the pack that I was blessed with caring for. My father before me always explained to me that although we were leaders our role was not one to command and dictate. The Moon Goddess had bestowed upon us a responsibility to care and ensure the safety of those under our charge. Although my father is no longer amongst the living, his words and values were instilled in my mind. His teachings lived through me.

When my sweet Amy announced that she was pregnant with my son, the elation I felt was overwhelming. We were so happy. I still remember the tears that lingered in my eyes as I caressed her swallow belly. When the pack was told that the future of the pack was secured everyone rejoiced. Our celebrations were loud and vibrated through the entire pack, well until after the birth of my son Thomas.

Thomas was named after the father who both me and my mate missed dearly. The name was given to him as a reminder of everything my father had done for me. He was our only son, for my wife and mate was unable to conceive after a difficult birth with Thomas. I knew we could have tried for more but the doctor explained that the risk to my mates health would most likely result in her death. It was something that I was not willing to bet on. I was happy and content with the family I had created, I knew without my mate a huge whole would linger, she was irreplaceable.

Growing up, I taught Thomas everything that my father had taught me. He excelled in school and had excellent grades, he helped around the pack house and during his training he went above and beyond. I always remember feeling proud of the man he was growing into. In his last few years of high school, the pride I held for him started to waver.

When he finished high school he explained that he had started to fall in love with a woman that he had known all his life. He explained that she made him happy and their was a connection with her that he could not explain. It was then that he revealed he had been in a secret relationship with the Gamma's daughter, Chloe. She was blonde, tall and her skin was flawless. They had grown up together and it was not difficult to see why my son became besotted with the she-wolf.

That was the first time I had to warn Thomas about his actions. That if he continued with this relationship, that someone would get hurt. Whether that be Chloe or his mate. Someone would be hurt. I was even scared that he too would feel the pain of heartbreak. It was why me and his mother had tried to stop him from entering a relationship with someone who wasn't his mate. However, my son was adamant that Chloe was his mate and he could feel it.

Fortunately when Thomas became of age, he announced to the pack that she was his true mate. Both me and his mother sighed in relief. Thanking the Goddess that my son seemed to have recognised his true mate early on. I sighed out a huge breath of pain that was constricting my lungs, for that was the second lie that my son had told me.

When I decided to pass the helm onto my son, I presumed he was ready. He showed nothing but the ability to put his pack first, he had found his Luna. Everything seemed to be going well for my son. It was then that I decided to leave the pack and take my wife travelling. For even though I had always made time for her, the pack took a lot of my energy and I wanted to ravish her in attention. So with that we made our exit and travelled the continent for two years. We kept in contact with our son, I always offered him a safe place to speak if he needed too but never once did he take up my offer.

It had been two years since we had left the pack and upon our return everything was different. The place where my bloodline had called home for generations was no longer recognisable. I still remember my mate's gasp when we entered the pack lands, her eyes were weary and filled with tears. The land that was once envied by other's and overflowing with wild life, now looked desolate.
