Ellie Richards

My anger was not settling, I could feel it pump through my body. It was like a shot of adrenaline to the heart. All I could do was clench my palm at the audacity of the Chancellor. A man who was no better than my mate, forcing me to spend time with someone who in my opinion didn't deserve to be my mate or an Alpha. How can a wolf who does not abide by our sacred laws.

I hadn't stopped after dropping the bomb at the ruling inquiry, my feet carried me straight to the allocated room that was next to my uncles. I didn't bother to stay with him, I knew he would have been frustrated with my actions. He had already warned me not to challenge Thorn but I couldn't help myself. He wasn't worthy to order me to spend time with my mate, he was a hypocrite. I couldn't help but feel oppressed by the the males in power.

I chucked myself on the bed and covered my eyes with my forearm while letting out an aggravated groan. It was then that I feel the vibration of my phone on my right thigh. It was then that I pulled it out and looked at the Caller ID.

Seth. That was who was calling me. I couldn't help but feel sad as I looked at his name on my phone. How was I even meant to explain what was happening in my life? How was I even meant to explain to work that I wouldn't be able to attend for a month? The anger that I felt towards the Elders only increased, they didn't care about my life or responsibilities. They were enforcing me to spend time with a man that I wanted nothing to do. My wolf was whimpering in the back on my mind, her heartbreak at being away from Seth.

I swiped the phone and brought it my ear. "Hey baby!" His voice was sweet like caramel, the joy in his voice made my heart flutter.

"Hey handsome." I replied.

"How are you doing? I tried calling you yesterday but it wouldn't connect. Is everything alright?" He questioned with worry in his tone.

"Sorry, everything has been a little hectic. I had a phone call from my uncle, telling me grandma was unwell and that she wanted to see me. I was really worried and needed to get to them as soon as possible. I'm sorry that I didn't tell you sooner." I lied as I clenched my eyes closed. I couldn't help but hate myself at the lies I was spewing. He didn't deserve this, but how was I meant to explain that I was a werewolf and brought to the council over the phone. He had idea about their existence.

"Oh baby. Is your grandmother okay? Is there anything I can do? You tell me and I will send the best specialists out to see her?" He quickly responded. It did nothing to quench the guilt that was filling my stomach.

"Handsome calm down. Honestly, I don't know what's wrong with her but she's very tired. Grandpa has asked if I could stay with them for some time. He could need the help and my Uncle is going away with work for a couple of weeks and he can't get out of it." I sigh.

"I'm sorry baby. I know how much you love your grandmother. Do you want me to come down there? I can be there on the next flight." Seth states.

"Handsome, don't worry you have work. Ma isn't up for visitors at the moment, I know she wouldn't want to see you while she's like this. I'll wait till she's a little bit better and then maybe you could come and spend a few weeks down here with us?" I said as the tears welled in my eyes. I couldn't help the sniffle that escaped my lips, the self-loathing I felt towards myself for lying to a man who did nothing but protect and love me.

"Okay baby. I understand. Well make sure you call me when you can. I don't want to interrupt your family time. I'm sure they miss you a lot."

"Hey your my family too. They will love you and I know Grandpa can't wait to meet you. I told them about the engagement, they were super happy." I said with a small smile.
