Ellie Richards

With my mind set, there was no time to waste. I didn't have time or the capacity to pack my belongings. The only thing I prepared was my backpack filled with the essentials. My travel documents are prepared and I have checked the phone that was given to me and saw that there is a direct flight to the Miami leaving in the next few hours. There was no way that I was going to be trapped here for thirty days. Why is it that as a woman we are expected to bow down to man? Why do they feel the need to exert their power to coerce me into a corner? Pushing me to forgive someone who truly isn't sincere or worthy of my forgiveness. If anything, that conversation I had with Thomas only proved that he wasn't sorry for rejecting me, he was merely sorry that he was caught.

I made sure to place my shining engagement ring on a long chain before tying it around my neck. As much as I didn't want to take it off, I needed to. I didn't deserve to wear this ring and bound myself to a Seth until I dealt with the baggage of my mate bond. He didn't deserve someone who was being unwillingly pulled in a different direction. He deserved all of my heart, even the bit that was occupied by the mate bond. He deserved all all of me.

I played with the ring that Luna Loretta sent to me. Although I was sceptical that it would work, I couldn't help but trust that my uncle's judgement. There is no way another pack would be willing to harbour a runaway Luna. It was unlikely that the news was shared with other packs because it would only damage their reputation. Even if this letter and ring was a fake. I didn't care, I was willing to take the risk.

With those thoughts in mind, I looked out the window. No longer was the sun settling down in the horizon. The bright moon was full, shining away in the starlit sky. I couldn't help but clench my eyes close sending a desperate plea to the moon goddess that this works. I know I may be praying against her wishes, but I can't help but wish to be free. I quickly slip on the ring and open the window.

Even though I may look small and innocent, I wasn't trained that way. My uncle was adamant that even if I wasn't in a pack, it was important for me to have the skills and abilities to survive. He took me camping in the forest, taught me how to hunt not only in werewolf form but as a human too. He said that it was always best to be prepared for the worse case scenario as you never know what would happen in the future. I remember begrudgingly trotting along behind him wishing I could go back home. I'm thankful he never relented.

I perched myself on the window, looking down and around scouting the area. It didn't take much for me to realise that the security was minimal in the evening. I believe that they underestimated my abilities because they thought I was untrained lone wolf, forgetting that my uncle was a well trained a responsible Beta that wouldn't let his family members perish or be put in harms way. I'm thankful that they underestimated me because I knew the morning staff wouldn't be here until ten in the morning. It was just before nine in the evening which would give me enough time to get on a flight and give me a slight head start before they realised I was out of the country.

I wasn't naive in thinking that I would not be intercepted but I had made plans to misdirect them. My intention was to book a flight to New York with my own card and details, knowing full well that they would be monitoring my actions. I wanted to confuse them, I knew they think I would return home to the human world, I'm pretty sure that they would believe that if I returned to Seth I would be in the public eye. This would mean that they would have a harder time trying to capture me and enforce me to follow their orders. However, as much as I wanted to return to Seth's side, I couldn't be selfish and put him at risk.

With Seth being the last thought on my mind. I looked down below where the coast was clear. I knew that to a human it would be crazy to jump from the second floor but fortunately my werewolf genes were strong. I pushed myself from the ledge and jumped. I didn't land on my feet like some superhero but simply used gravity and fell to a crouching position before doing a roll. Although there was a slight pain as I thudded to the grass, I was still unharmed and ready to run.

I knew that I couldn't use the front entrance as that was where the guards were, even the back exit onto the beach was monitored. It was the first night, that I learned I wasn't free to wonder carelessly on the beach. I would be followed. So, I made my way through the thick forest area to find the fence which I could climb over. I knew I wouldn't have a lot of time if I wanted to make this flight in time. So I didn't hesitate, I sprinted as fast as I could without making a sound while I was in human form.

I don't know how long I ran for, but all I could hear was the pounding in my chest. It felt like my heart was in my head. There was nothing I could do but run. I couldn't look back. I had to look forward if I was going to be successful in escaping this forced romantic getaway. It wasn't before long that I was able to find the wall. Surprisingly, it was not to difficult difficult to climb as some of the bricks in the wall were loose making it easy to slip the tips of feet into the gaps, while allowing my hands to find places to grip and pull myself up.

Fortunately, I managed to have a private account in my mother's maiden name, it was again my uncle's suggestion to put a cash deposit in there in case of an emergency. He said if I ever needed to hide or escape it was good to have an account that wasn't easily traced back to me. I used to think he was paranoid, but again I am thankful for my uncle's forward thinking because it was only abetting me in my sweet escape.

As I reached over the wall. I quickly booked a seat to Miami and stripped myself down until I was naked. I knew I would need to shift if I was going to make my flight on time.

"Are you ready?" I questioned my wolf internally.

"Never been more prepared in my life." She nodded. It was then that I felt my wolf push to the front of my mind while I took a backseat. Some people weren't as lucky as I was, to have a wolf that supported the human decisions in me. She wasn't some timid creature that was submissive, she was the opposite.

My bones started to morph as my joints started to crack. I could feel the familiar fur replace my skin. Everything was fast that I didn't have time to enjoy the moment of shifting, it wasn't a painful or unpleasant feeling. It was like something was like being wrapped in a warm blanket. But that feeling was fleeting. My wolf didn't take the time to stop and smell the roses, she simply sprinted off into the shadows of the night, pushing forward and moving as fast as she possibly could.

We knew we were on a deadline, the clock was ticking.
