Rose is 8. Finn is 12

I just wanted to say that in this, rose will have autism. I don't know much about autism as i have never had personal experience. But I know there are different levels. I'm afraid I'm just basing this off different movies I have watched so I apologise if not everything is correct. However at this time, autism wasn't discovered so they just think she is different

Polly pov

I was sitting in the doctors office with rose. She was sitting by the window, tracing the water droplets with her finger. The doctor sat opposite me as he studied our little rose.

"I have been studying rose for a while as you are well aware. My colleagues and I have noticed she is below others intellectually. She got 20% on all the academic multiple choice tests we gave her except for maths. Numbers seem to speak lpuder than words in her brain. She got 100% on her test. Equations were solved much beyond the average 8 year olds capability" he explained

"She has always been good with Numbers. The walls of her room are covered in maths equations that she did with chalk. I don't dare rub wash them off" I told him

"When we look outside academic achievement, we realise she isn't doing so well. She hardly speaks and when she does, it is very random thoughts that just pop into her head. She hears what people are saying but not all the time. It's as if she blocks out the world when she is in deep thought"

"Don't we all. Escape from this fucked up world" I replied.

"Ms gray, i think it best if we take rose to a mental institution. It is only a matter of time before things get worse and she ends up hurting herself or others"

"STOP right there. She would never hurt anybody. Rose is the kindest girl i know. So what if she isn't good at history or English? Does the good of people mean nothing anymore?" I said as I took roses hand in mine and walked out the hospital with her. No one was taking her away. Ever!

Once we got home, rose immediately sat down and started play fighting with John. She really was so happy. Always. I told everyone what had happened and they were fuming. Arthur stormed out and I am almost positive that the doctor will need a hospital himself.

Finn pov

It was half 12 and rose was sat next to Tommy as she wrote in her notepad. Me, rose, Tommy and John were at the kitchen table just after having lunch.

"Rose, what ya writing hun?" John asked. Rose didn't respond and didn't look up from her work.

"In a world of her own" Tommy laughed as he looked over her shoulder.

"Some maths equation. Fucking hell. Don't know what half that shit means" he admitted. She stopped writing and looked up at us smiling. We smiled back but my smile fell when rose said

"Outside" she didn't use long sentences and was always very quiet when she spoke. But that wasn't the issue. I knew I would he asked to take her outside

"Finn, go play with your sister" John said

"Can't. I'm meeting me mates in a min" i said.

"Well take her with you" Tommy said. My jaw dropped open as I stood up fast

"NO WAY! She is so embarrassing. She doesn't reply when people talk to her and she just points at everything she sees. It gets on my nerves" I said in defense.

"DONT YOU DARE SAY THAT FINN SHELBY. SHE IS OUR SISTER AND SHE ISNT EMBARASSING. I WOULD BE EMBARASSED IF I TREATED MY SISTER LIKE THAT" John yelled at me. Rose started crying at the loud noise as she rocked back and forth, covering her ears.
