Random stranger pov

I was walking home after doing some last minute shopping. I realised I had no bread for the children's lunch tomorrow and so bad to run down to the bakery before it closed. I made it just in time. It was getting dark, 4pm cold winters evening.

I saw a figure down by the canal, walking along dangerously close to the edge. I continued to watch as I walked slowly. I had a bad feeling in my gut and I was right. The figure slipped and landed in the water.

I dropped my shopping and ran down to the canal to help the person. As i got closer i realised it was a child and they were clearly struggling. Without a second thought, I dove into the water and lifted the child into my arms. With effort since I too am quite small, I got the child out. A girl looked about 6 maybe 7. She was in tears and her body shaking from the cold air. I had to take her coat off her as it was freezing however the air wasn't much nicer.

"Are you alright?" I asked as her tears slowed down. She nodded her head

"Thank you" she said hugging me unexpectedly. I hugged the child back and lifted her up

"Let's get you home before you freeze. What's your name?" I asked

"Rose shelby" she replied, teeth chattering

"OK love. I know where you live" I told her. She dug her head into my neck as I walked to the shelby house. The closest one was polly grays house so I took her there. I knocked on the door and a man opened it

Tommy pov

There was a knock on the door so I got up to open it. Everyone was round pollys for Sunday dinner. There was a woman who's dress was soaked and in her arms, rose.

"Hello Mr shelby. Rose here fell into the canal so I thought it best to get her home before she froze" she explained. I let the woman in as i took rose in my arms. Everyone sat shocked at the new guest

"Thank you so much" polly thanked

"I best be getting back to my children" she said as she was about to leave

"I'll drive you back. You'll catch your death if you walk back in this" I said as i handed rose to esme. The woman thanked me as we left the house

Rose pov

I was shaking in esmes arms so she took me upstairs and got me dressed in my pyjamas with a blanket. She carried me downstairs where Arthur handed me hot chocolate. We sat on the sofa, me on esmes knee as I waited for my family to start the interrogation

"You know you aren't allowed to play near the canal alone" John scolded

"I didn't know I would fall in" I huffed

"No shit" finn grumbled earning him a smack from polly

"What would've happened if that woman wasn't there to help you?" Polly asked

"I would've carried on drowning until last minute when I handsome stable boy drags me out the water. I would be unconscious so he would give me the kiss of life. Then we would stare into eachothers eyes. He would offer to walk me home and after dreaming about eachother, I would finally see him again. Only he isn't a stable boy. He is infact a prince. Then we would get married and I would be a princess" I explained as they all stared at me

"You read too many fairy tales love. In reality, you would've died rose. Do you hear me? Died" Arthur grumbled

"It's not my fault" I whined

"How?" Finn asked me

"I don't know how to swim. You won't teach me" I said.

"Fine. Next sunday, I'll take ya swimming and ill teach ya" Arthur said
