soft lips are open, them knuckles are pale, feels like you're dying...

Third-Person POV

"Hehe, you don't have to worry about him anymore, he's here with Tooru." Oikawa's mother observed the two males tangled with each other on the bed, sleeping soundly and snoring loudly.

She noticed the first aid kit on the ground and the bandages on Shouyou's face, but she'll talk to him about it later on. It was nice to see Shouyou and Oikawa so close again. Lately, an uncomfortable tension had been brewing between them.

"Thank God he's okay. Is he sleeping?"

"Yes, quite deeply, might I add."

She carefully clicked the door closed and walked off. Mrs. Hinata sounded as if she was going to cry. "He's really sleeping? That's so good to hear. I haven't seen him sleep properly in years."

"Yeah, he seems a bit roughed up, but Tooru's taken care of it all. It's all okay now."

Oikawa's POV

It's fucking hot... My eyes fluttered open in irritation, but when I realized I couldn't figure out which limb was mine I froze.

Shouyou's breath hitched beside me, and his eyes squeezed a bit, I thought I had woken him up for a moment, but his body soon relaxed again, and I sighed in relief.

Shouyou's skin felt boiling against mine, and not just because of the heat in this room. I turned my head and realized I had never flipped the fan beside my night table on.

Of course, I reached over and did so, and smiled at the cool air on my face. It blew gently at Shouyou's hair, and it was so damn adorable watching his curls tangle.

His soft snores, his weak clutch on my chest, it was all so overwhelmingly comforting and, well, I can't explain it fully, but his embrace is just really warm. Perhaps it's because we haven't had skin-to-skin contact in years, though.

As I reminisced about our past and soaked in Shouyou's warmth, his body began shivering. Thinking he was cold, I turned the fan off and further entangled my legs with his beneath the blanket in hopes of heating him back up.

But he still wouldn't stop shivering, and his breathing began getting a bit uneven. It was worrying, and my next thought was that he must've caught a fever.

That theory also proved to be incorrect when his voice, cracked from an unknown sadness, began whimpering. I was able to catch a few mutters of "stop" and "... go" before I realized he was having a nightmare.

I was really against waking him up since he hardly sleeps as it is, but, even with my hand rubbing soothing circles through his hair, he wouldn't calm down in the slightest.

Eventually, I made the decision to sit up and try and shake him awake, and when I did...

He punched me.

"Oh, Oh my God! I'm so sorry!" It didn't hurt too bad since he was still weak from his slumber, and I thank the gods for that because just that one alone was enough to send me laying back on the bed.

"To-San, God, I'm so, so sorry!"

He pulled me back up and frantically observed the red mark on my cheek. I didn't mind, it was cute, it gave me a moment to admire Shouyou without his guards up.

"Good morning," I couldn't help but chuckle out, and his cheeks heated some, but he turned away before I could get a proper view.

Our position seemed to settle into his brain and he quickly scrambled off of me. A bit too fast, might I add, because he slipped off the edge and crashed onto the floor.

I wanted to laugh, but his pained groan popped me out of the bubble I was in. In an instant, I was at his side, helping him back up onto the bed and checking his bandages to see if any cuts busted open.

"I'm fine, To-San, you worry too much."

He was laughing- chuckling, more or less, but it was such a heart-clenching joyous sound that I couldn't help but hug him amid my happiness overdrive.

To my surprise, he didn't hug back, but he nuzzled into my nape, I could tell he had hurt his shoulder since he wasn't moving his arm, but he didn't say anything, so I left it be.

"I see you boys are up and doing well, haha." Mom walked in, a hand on her cheek as she stared at us. I quickly released Shouyou and sat beside him to block her view of his small body.

"H-Hey, Mom! Don't mind us, we're just, you know, doing a morning wrestling match to pump up the blood!"

"It's not morning, Dear, it's 1 o'clock in the afternoon, and I've already seen Shouyou's wounds, so there's no need to hide them."

Now, it was Shouyou who stepped in, leaping off the bed to flusteredly try to explain everything, from the medkit, to the bloodied, broken skateboard on the ground, and the bandages all over his body.

"I- Well, I had a pretty nasty fall at the skate park last night and To-San helped me out! Nothing else happened, though!"

She laughed, and I tugged Shouyou back beside me on the bed. "It's okay, Shouyou, as long as you have Tooru to back you up, I won't say a word unless it gets out of hand. Also, I want you to come to me from now on when something happens, okay?"

He bashfully nodded at her words.

"I only have a few appointments today, so, Tooru, I want you to take Shouyou into town and get him a new skateboard, there's money in my purse. Also, Shouyou, please, don't be afraid to confide in me or your mom- We'll always be there when you need us, no matter how busy we are."

Shouyou nodded again, I could tell her words chipped at his heart a bit. She smiled at us. "Well, lunch is downstairs. Make sure you say hi to your mom and sister, Shouyou."

The both of us nodded now, and she left with a smile. "Well, we better get dressed, huh?" I turned to Shouyou, and his eyes met mine. He dropped his head onto my shoulder and clutched at my arm.

"Thank you for stepping in, I wasn't sure of what to say until you said something..."

I sat there for a moment, soaking in his gratitude, then smiling afterward and ruffling up his hair. "Meet you in front of the gate in an hour?"

"Ye-Yeah..."

He moved as if he were going to climb out of the window, but I grabbed his wrist and pointed to the door. "Oh, right, habit, I guess..."

Once he was properly escorted out of the shop exit I made my way up the stairs and over to my mom in the living room to flop down on the couch beside her.

She held a book in hand but glanced over at me, then back to her book. She inhaled before speaking.

"Thanks for taking care of him, Tooru, you're such a great friend."

I laughed a bit and scratched at the back of my neck before standing up and walking away.

Yeah... Friend...
