Chapter 17

The guy looked shocked as you helped him free.
After he was released you inspected him for any
Injuries before trying to see if he could walk or best case scenario, run.

He started limping and realised that he could not continue the race. A defeated look turned into shock once more as you hoisted him up on your back.

You helped the guy, and your not gonna leave him.

"What are you doing..?"
"Bringing you with me"

With him seated on your back you started shifting the weight to see what was best for running.

"You ready?"
You said getting into position.

"What-"

Before he could say anything more you started running through the alley-like course.

Instead of running straight forward you took a route that was shorter but hard to see for other contestans.

It was harder to manouver in, but you had no problem after doing it with antlers on your head for some years now.

You jumped on top of the pipes and eventually got on top of a building that made it easier to move on instead of struggling with obstacles on the ground.

The guy held on for dear life as you ran on the roof. You looked down to see Momo nearing the finish line and sped up.

Seeing the building come to an end you jumped on the last of the pipes and made your way to the ground.

The person on your back sighed in relief after the scary moment but kept a strong grip on you so he wouldt fall off.

If your guesses were correct you would be given points for your act, and points for your time.

You quickly theorised the point reward system and calculated the distance between you and momo.

If you got the same time as her, you would get more points but if you were a few seconds behind you might get the same amount as her as the heroes determine the extra given points at the end.

As momo crossed the finish line your mind slowly counted the time as you regulated your body speed accordingly.

Finally crossing the finish line yourself a sigh of relief were heard from both you and the person still seated on your back.

[You have gained 200 coins for your heroic act!]

"You okay?" You asked as you lowered him to the ground and sat him up against a wall just beside the track.

"Ehe yeah, just a little shaken up" He said while as a relieved smile was visible on his face.

"Thats understandable, sorry for dragging you along" you said as you gave him a nervouss smile.

"Nono, its fine. Besides it was quite the experience" He said as he gave you a short laugh.

It seemed the other contestants had arrived as well after some time, and recovery girl made her regular check on everyone.

"Are you hurt dear?" She asked but before he could answer a kiss landed on his cheek.

Energy left his body as it was used to heal his injury.

"Here have some gummies for your hard efforts"
She said as she handed the both of you some gummies each before taking her leave to examine the rest.

"Thank you!" You quickly said as she walked away. You felt that she was an underated character in the show and deserved much more praise for what she did.

Your attention shifted as Present mic presented another announcement with his loud voice.
He informed that all examinators were to meet up at start with their assigned group.

"Can you walk?" You asked the now exhausted dude.

"Yeah..." He said as you helped him up on his feet.

Once he felt ready the both of you walked together to the location.

"Hey, we never introduced. Did we?" He said with a lazy grin.

"Youre right" you responded as you stopped. He did the same and turned towards your form.

"Y/n" you said with your hand out for him to shake.

"Aah okay but like, my name is really weird..."
He said rubbing his neck in embarrasment.

You silently stared at him, waiting for an answer.

"Arson" He said as he awkwardly shook your hand.

As soon as he saw your eyes widen he hurried to walk in front of you. While he frantically tried to explain the reason behind his name you couldt help but search for answers in your head.
'A coincident?' You werent sure.

You stared at his form as a memory played at the back of your head similar to your current setting.

"Do you think she'll come back?"
You said you and your friend slowly walked together.

It was silent as you held your baby sister close to your body. Not trusting your mother to take care of her, you had to take her wherever you went to prevent anything from happening. She was packed nicely inn to protect her from the cold.

Arson silently walked in front of you not giving an answer to your question.
The wind stood still as dry leaves crumbled by your feet.

"Honestly y/n, I dont know"

You stared at your worn out shoes while following your friend in front.
It was silent once more as nothing felt the same without your third friend following behind your trail.
