Chapter 36: Sorry

I watched as Agua dragged Kai away and he let him. My mom didn't love me. She had run off with my father. She didn't care. She never did. All those times I dreamed about my parents coming home was a waste of my time. Kai hung his head then looked up once, bubbles surrounding him. He mouthed something but I couldn't tell what, because Agua swam away fast. A piece of paper drifted with the currents. I squinted then mopped my face with the back of my palms. I swam closer. The map? Because Kai was so obnoxious he wasn't able to explain what the map was for. I grabbed it madly, and stared. No, how. Agua had marked everywhere I had been, Kai had been, Kylie and Rylie had been. He even knew where the coral house was and who was there. It wasn't just Agua, he had an entire crew. It wasn't just Ghost and Leviathan, to have followed us everywhere we went he had to have other merpeople working with him. And he had the location of where the stone and necklace were. That's where he's going. That means I have to be there first. I folded the map and put it beside the picture of my mom. The cave was near Kai's secret parent hideout. I swam at top speed toward the mysterious place keeping watch of Agua and Kai possibly swimming by. I waited until I saw Agua coming toward me with Kai in handcuffs. I hid inside a little crook up the top of the small crude cave. Agua started grumbling rudely about me while I formed a big ice ball, this was new, it had spikes outside of it this time! This was going to be fun. I floated down majestically," I'm here, Agua, and by the way I heard everything you said. And I'm not the flompous barnacle-faced seahead octopus turd, you are! Now, where do we start?" I smiled sweetly. He gestured toward the back of the bare cave with his head, I swam inside cautiously searching everywhere for traps. I noticed the speaker looking thing hanging by the top and swam a bit closer. I wondered why Kai wasn't talking, and saw he had been gagged. Kai was choking!" Ungag Kai, or I'm not doing anything for you." He sneered," I'm sure you'd prefer your Prince Charming gagged then dead." I sneered right back," Then I definitely wouldn't do anything. You'd have no bargaining." I smiled sweetly again and Agua looked ready to gag me too." I mean yes, you could kill me but then who would get you your precious stone?" I mocked in a baby voice. He opened his mouth then closed it realizing he had no smart comeback. He grumbled something rude under his breath then ripped off the gag. Kai looked at me full of hope, I couldn't let him down. I had to trick Agua, and I was amazing at that." Before we do this, Zayana, I'm sorry for what I said. I was being selfish and rude," " Yeah, you were." He chuckled," I'm sorry, you will make a great and kind queen. The best in all of queen history, and I'm sorry for that, Queen Zayana. I shouldn't have spoken about your mother that way." He did the best bow he could while tied up. I wiped the tears from my eyes and hugged him," Of course, I forgive you, you big knucklehead!" He smiled, then rested his head on my shoulder." Might be our last one." " No, it isn't." I dropped my voice to a whisper," I have an-" Agua interrupted," Enough with all the lovey dovey stuff! Zayana, do what I brought you here to do." I mumbled under my breath, what a good interrupter he is. Which is a bad thing just to be clear. I stopped in front of the bare back of the cave. How could this cave be valuable? What did Agua want from it? I asked Agua a question without looking at him. I was going to punch him if I did," So . . . what do I do now?" I could hear him shrug." I don't know. Speak into the-" suddenly a loud voice, so loud it made everyone bounce back, crawl into a ball and cover their ears, boomed," State your full name and birthday and that will decide if I ask you the rest of the questions, if not you will be BANISHED!" I looked at Kai and Agua and realized Kai would be pretty shook for a while. His hands were tied up, he couldn't cover his ears. It was already loud enough with my ears covered. I wonder how he felt. Mentally hurt by the sound and seriousness of the voice I meekly swam toward the bare cave," Um, Aquiana Zayana cool lost princess?" I nervously chuckled and prepared myself for the booming voice. It came, unfortunately and everyone was blasted back even farther than before. I was thrown into Kai, we both grunted from the impact." WRONG! Leave before you don't leave EVER AGAIN!!!" I wanted to stay lying on the ground then Agua yelled," You don't even know your own name! You're impossible!" I shrieked in fear thinking it was the voice again," It's not my fault! My aunt had little time to explain something as simple as my name before your companion came and attacked!" I yelled right back, I hopped up and dusted myself off." Your name is Aquiana Ava Lavinia Meri!" Kai yelled. His ear had probably been blown out, I swam closer and checked them," Hmm, you seem fine, I guess it was just loud." He shouted," Meri means sea princess!" He smiled and I swam back over to the speaker," My name is Aquiana Ava Lavinia Meri." I said my birthday and braced for impact. She didn't boom, the only thing that happened was that a hand print thing came out, I put my hand on it and while it was scanning my hand another scan was scanning the rest of my body," Agua, it's a lot more than a handprint, code, voice, and name. It's a lot more!" I shout-whispered. A hooky thing came out and grabbed my hair pulling me in one direction," Owww," I silently complained. Suddenly everything beeped and it all went away, I rubbed at my head hard." State the code, please," this time the voice was sweet and soothing totally different from the angry and annoyed voice from before. I thought hard. Then it clicked, the song, the song from my mom! " Um, 'Things are always what they seem so don't assume the worst?" I hoped that was it, I wasn't prepared for the big boom. And I couldn't think of anything else it could be. " Wrong!" It yelled. Apparently it had clicked wrong. My ears were ringing so badly I hadn't heard the rest of what it was saying. I saw the rumble instead. Maybe I had gone about this all wrong. This would have to be my dad's secret lair, right? So what about his saying? The one Auntie A had told me. One of my dad's favorite saying! " Love will reign supreme," I said confidently. There was a ding," Correct. Please enjoy your stay," the doors opened. Agua chuckled and followed me into the mansion. But when he tried to swim inside it zapped him, it wasn't a problem for Kai, actually when he swam in the rope was cut off like a secret laser cut it." We'll be back later, don't get zapped." I smiled and heard Agua whisper something under his breath that I would never repeat. There were silver chandeliers and gold trays and a fruit basket. I stood in awe," Have you ever seen anything like it?" I asked Kai he smiled at me," I grew up in a palace, remember." Kai noticed the big vault that was locked," Do you think that's where the necklace is?" I nodded," Has to be." All it asked for was my birth and name. I had trouble spelling some of the names but got it right eventually. When I turned around Kai wasn't there, I was going to give him a friendly smile but smiling at air is considered weird." Kai?" I looked left and right, up and down but he wasn't anywhere. Suddenly he appeared on the ground sitting," Zayana, will you do me the honors of becoming . . . my . . . best friend?" I worried he was actually going to propose. I grinned right back," Of course, and we will be best friends forever and ever." I joined along," For as long as we both shall live," Kai said. I glanced down at the ring he had in his hand and gasped," Oh my gosh, Kai, it's beautiful! I love it! Where'd you get it?" I asked," Found it in a corner over there when I saw it, it reminded me of you." He studied my face." Beautiful." I smiled and he smiled back. I acted like I was rubbing something off my face while I was actually trying to hide my blush. " Thank you." I whispered, I turned around," I can't wait to see what the necklace looks like," I opened the vault surprisingly easy. There in a glass case was the most magnificent necklace I had ever seen. I gasped," Kai! Look at it!" I grabbed the necklace, the shining silver shell necklace. It was perfect. And even better it was a locket, I carefully opened the case and then opened the necklace. Inside was a picture of my mom cradling me in her arms. She was beautiful. On the other side was a written description. It was too tiny to read, I searched around and spotted a glass bottle for decoration. I grabbed it and looked through the mouth part. The words were actually a definition." Zayana: one who adorns and beautifies something." I read aloud," Kai, look at the picture. My mom is so beautiful." He looked at it then smiled," Yeah, she looks exactly like you. Like exactly. The same beauty mark on your cheek, the same enchanting eyes, and the same delightful smile." I couldn't help but grin then something had shown itself to me. A plan," Kai, I think I know what to do."
