TW!: Mention of death

_________ ★ _________

Y/N Harrington had died in Starcourt Mall that night. The night that has haunted Steve's nightmares ever since. He can't get her scream out of his head, her teary eyes that told him exactly what she was going to do with no words.

The way her fragile body sprawled out on the floor when the mind flayer finally let her go.

Steve hated those thoughts, god why the hell won't they go away.

Steve Harrington ended up going to therapy, at fist he didn't say anything about what had happened. He obviously couldn't tell her exactly what had happened. She wouldn't understand the part about the monsters and possessions. If she heard that she would probably ship him to a mental hospital.

"Okay. Thank you for that Steve. Um.. we're going to try something new. I want you to write a letter, to Y/N" Ashley said, and Steve's heart dropped. "You don't have to show it to me. I just want you to do it because it helps you heal, it will help you miss her less."

"O-okay." Steve mumbled, he had never been so soft spoken, it worried everyone around him but they obviously understood why.

He didn't listen to the rest of what she said, too exhausted to care. He made a fake smile at her and said goodbye when she finished talking and then he lazily walked to his car.

'Heroes' by Peter Gabriel came on the radio, and Steve had to pull over and turn it off. God he was such a wreck and he knew that. That's why he wrote the letter, he wanted to get better.. he wanted a lot of things.

Steve had tried to write the letter many, many times, sitting at his desk and brushing his hair back in frustration. He walked out into the hallway, trying to get out of his seemingly suffocating room.

He looked at Y/N's bedroom with a blank expression, though he wanted to cry. He wanted to cry, and see his sister again, he wished more than anything that he had just told her once how much she meant to him.

He had never been in Y/N's room since she died, but he decided that he wanted to be brave today. He might not be a hero, but he would at least try to be as brave as she was. He opened the door and he was immediately hit with a sickening feeling. It was sickening, but oddly comforting.

He didn't like crying, especially when it was about Y/N. Everything was so much worse when it was about Y/N. He missed her too much to even think about her.

He looked around the room, he couldn't stop the tears rolling down his face. The closet door was slightly open, he could see some of his jackets she stole in there. And he swore he could see the shaking little girl crying on the floor in the closet.

The 12 year old boy sat on his bed, his usually fluffy hair sat flat on his head and his signature grin had turned into a prominent frown. His parents were fighting again. He used to be scared when it happened, he could cover his ears and shut his eyes tight.

But now he just found it annoying. Two grown adults fighting like they were children. Steve hopped off of his bed and walked over to the door, opening it. He cringed as the noise got louder when he opened the door.

He quickly and quietly walked down the hall to his little sisters room. Opening and closing the door as swift as possible so no extra noise would enter the girls bedroom. He sighed and looked around the room.. but she wasn't there?
