"Let's get you sat up," Hyunjin's voice drifted into my ears and I couldn't see anything. My eyes were open, but they refused to bring any of the blurry surroundings into view. I had no idea where I was, or what had happened. The last thing I remembered was being on the floor.
"Urgh, my head." I whined quietly. He offered me a glass of cold water. I sipped it thirstily and blinked a few times. My eyes were wrecked. They were dryer than a desert and I felt like someone had put some glasses, designed for another's eyes, on my own face.
"How are you feeling?" Jin asked quietly.
"M-Min?" Jisung's emotional, tired little voice drifted into my ears, and then his face came into view. His round puffy cheeks, swollen with bruises. Those huge round anime like eyes, that were filled with tears of joy. His plump quivering lips, shaking with emotion. My perfect little Angel was here to greet me.
"Baby. I'm so glad you're OK." I murmured as I tried to lift my shaky arm to his face. He took my hand and helped me lift the dead weight of my heavy limb. He pressed my hand to his soft cheek and I ran my thumb over it. He closed his eyes and pressed his cheek against my palm. Just touching him was the greatest gift I had ever received.
"I'm sorry I couldn't do more to protect you my love." Jisung whispered. I wiped a tear away from his cheek and gently wound my fingers through his.
"Kiss me Jisung." His lips pressed delicately to mine and I closed my eyes. Savouring the sweet moment.
"How are you feeling?" He asked as he gently rubbed his nose over mine. Jin made fake gagging noises and I chuckled slightly.
"Like someone has broken my skull." I murmured.
"They did. But I'm so glad you're awake. We can forget it now baby. He's been arrested. He'll never be able to get to us again." Those words were like someone freeing me of invisible chains that had been weighing me down my whole life. Like the ocean I had been drowning in finally calmed enough to allow me to surface for air. Like someone had found me on my desolate, horror show of a deserted island and they were taking me to safety.
"R-Really?" My eyes filled with the biggest tears and they flowed freely down my cheeks as I struggled against the sudden pounding of my now free heart.
"You never have to be scared again Min." Jin's hand rested on my shoulder and I began wailing loudly. I couldn't hold it in anymore. The purest joy was knowing I would be able to step out of my home and be safe.
No more looking back over my shoulder.
"Wh-Where is Lix?" Jisung was drying my tears and I tried to regain control of myself.
"H-He hasn't woken up yet." Jin dropped his gaze and Jisung glanced over to my left side. I turned my aching head slowly and there he was.
The yellow tinge on his pale face made him look like a decomposing corpse. Dressings covered his abdomen and chest, and his arms and hands were covered too.
"What happened?" I asked quietly.
"He got stabbed. By Dad. His liver is badly damaged." Jin's voice cracked and he slowly moved away from me. He drifted silently towards Felix and sat on the edge of his bed. He brushed his hair from his face and chewed his cheek as he stared at him.
"Th-They don't know if he's gonna make it. He's not healing well. He lost a lot of blood." Jisung whispered quietly. A lump was forming in my throat and I was overwhelmed with an angry sadness that felt like a raging storm in the pit of my stomach.
"He had to fuck us over one last time, didn't he?" I asked angrily as tears began reforming in my eyes. "He couldn't just admit defeat." My eyes drifted back to Jisung and he was also feeling the weight of his brothers condition.
"I could have protected him more. I should have done something. I-I-" His voice cracked and Jin was up in an instant. He ran to Jisung and pulled him into a hug.
"Don't you dare Jisung. Don't you dare." He embraced him tightly and rested his cheek on the top of his head.
"I-I'm so sorry Felix." Jisung sobbed. My heart felt like it was ready to explode.
"Ah, he's awake." A group of doctors and nurses entered and Jin gently lead Jisung back to his own bed. He sat him down and kept him firmly in his embrace. Trying to soothe his unstoppable tears and sadness.
"Hello." I said politely as they gathered around me and began checking machines.
"Do you know who you are?" One of them asked.
"My name is Lee Minho." I stated flatly. My attention was elsewhere. I wanted desperately to go and hug my crying Jisung and instead I was stuck in this bed. I felt as useful as a chocolate teapot and I huffed in annoyance.
"Do you know where you are?" The doctor was writing ferociously and nurses began removing some of the tubing from my arms and placing sticky pads on my chest.
"Uh, in a hospital, I hope." The doctor chuckled slightly and smiled at the sarcasm that dripped from my voice.
"Nice to see you still have a sense of humour." He said quietly.
"Surprise." I mumbled as I watched Hyunjin drying Jisung's wet cheeks and whispering something to him. I wanted them all to leave. I needed to be with my family. I needed to be with the only people I had left in this world. The only ones I loved.
"What year is it?" He asked.
"That depends how long I've been out for doctor." His endless questions were tugging at the last bit of patience I had. If one more hand touched me I might lose my damn mind.
"Your brothers warned us about you."
"Brother and boyfriend." I corrected snappily.
"O-Oh you all have the same last name. We assumed-"
"You know what they say about assuming. It just makes an ass of you and me."
Then it happened.
Felix's machines started beeping wildly. I quickly forced my aching body upwards and looked over to his bed. He was convulsing violently and looked like he was choking on some invisible foreign objects.
"He's crashing!" One of the nurses shouted. They all left me and immediately began working on Felix. They pulled the curtain separation around him and Jin got up. This couldn't be good news.
"F-Felix?" Someone came and tried to get me to lie back down but I didn't care. This couldn't be happening.
"Wh-What's going on?!" I asked as I looked around wildly, hoping and praying someone would have an answer for me.
"FELIX!" Jin tried to get past the curtain but more people had arrived and he was held back. I could see the terror in his soul that was exiting his body as violent shaking as he tried desperately to reach for the curtains. The ones that separated us from the last peice of our broken puzzle. Jisung paced over and he was also held back. Him and Jin began frantically trying to get answers but they were being purposefully vague.
The curtain was wrenched back.
Someone was straddling Felix and performing CPR. Another pair of hands pressed an oxygen mask to his face.
We couldn't lose him.
We just couldn't.
"FELIX!" Jin dropped to his knees as he was rushed out of the room. Jisung fell to Jin's side and they embraced each other as the doors swung shut.
I knew everything in that moment that I needed to.
We were not out of the woods yet.
