He sees a chair on the other side of the table.

Better not risk it.

It's black, as black as its skin and the darkness that surrounds them.
Maybe the creature is the darkness.
Maybe it's nothing.
Just a fraction of Albert's imagination.
It's just a dream.
No need to fear.
The creature watches Albert for a while before taking the gift.
It must be its birthday.
Why else would it take the gift?
The creature opens the gift with the utmost care, gently opening the gift instead of tearing it apart.
Albert stares.
He feels nothing.
Why isn't he afraid?
The gift is open.
Revealing a red beating heart.
No wonder Albert didn't feel his heart beating in his chest.
His heart was inside the gift all along.
"Thank you, Albert. For this gift."
The voice sounded strange.
It didn't sound human.
Albert felt tired.
He closes his eyes.
Hopefully, he'll wake up.
