I was standing in front of the counter, getting an order ready when I heard the bell ringing indicating that someone had entered the building. I looked up and saw a guy around my age coming toward me.

I glanced at the calendar and sighed at the date.

June 1st, 2025

"Hi!" The guys said.

Gulping my fear down, I smiled at the customer.

"Hello, Welcome to Sweeter Sides. What can I get for you today?" I asked the guy in front of me.

"Can I please have the chocolate cake," He said and I nodded, typing it in.

"Anything else?" I asked the man.

"No. Nothing else," He said, shaking his head I nodded, before quickly packing the slice of cake into our signature box. I then put the box on the counter and registered the cake into the device.

"That'd be three dollars and fifty cents," I said, smiling at the customer. He nodded and went to get his wallet. After two minutes, his eyes went wide and he looked down at the cake.

"Dad is going to kill me for not getting a gift," he mumbled but I heard him. I frowned at him but before I got a chance to say anything, he headed towards the exit.

"Hey, where are you going?" I called out just as he was about to exit the bakery.

"I left my wallet at home and I don't have any cash on me. So I won't be able to buy the cake. Sorry," he said.

I gave him an 'award-winning' smile. "No problem sir, have the cake. It is on the house,"  He looked unsure.

"You sure?" He asked. I nodded and smiled widely and took the cake from the counter.

"You don't know how much you save me. Thank you, Miss...," He said, unsure of my name.

"It is Ariana and no problem sir. Now go give that gift to whoever you are going to give it to," I said and he nodded then left.

I sighed after he left, and my smile immediately dropped. I don't know how long I am going to keep going like this.

"Hey, honey. Who was that?" Mom said, coming out of the kitchen.

"A random guy who wanted to buy a cake as a gift," I said and shrugged, giving a fake, but real-looking smile. She smiled back at me.

"Did you have your pills?" She questioned.

"Yes, mum." I am really tired of having them. They make me always so weak.

She nodded her head in approval and smiled. "Good Job Ariana. I am so proud of you. For everything."
