I wish I could just make you a stranger;

For the night we met, you changed my whole life;

My scale of beauty, you put in danger,

Is there one that surpasses you: a wife?

To wallow is my greatest enemy;

My eyes look down upon it with great scorn;

To give in, why not write my elegy?

So when I lost you, again I was born:

Not that I will never find another,

But compared to you, I have a great fear;

My heart's wish was to make you my lover;

Now wails of depression are all I hear:

I know the odds say there are more than one,

But I doubt you can really be outdone.
