Sonnet 35: Cruise with Another

Drifting slowly in my simple sailboat,

Dreaming one day you'd choose to sail with me,

But I know my meek bark is no showboat,

Compared to he who reached you so quickly:

I can't compete with his ship much grander,

Made of wood from the same tree as your own

Even if my craft surpassed his grandeur,

On his vessel, you'd feel as if at home:

So I meander on barren waters,

Keeping careful watch of the open blue,

Just in case that my horror of horrors,

Comes true, drowning in your tears, I find you:

The waves left in your love's wake josh my ship,

In case his sinks, I'm here to save your trip.
