Sonnet 25: I Heard a Symphony

For many years I heard a simple tune;

The instruments of life numbered a few,

A cello, a drum, and an old bassoon,

I was content, no other song I knew:

A single day the whole ensemble changed;

One cello became a string orchestra,

For one drum four timpani were exchanged,

The sounds flowed with some sacred formula:

Notes in harmonious complexity,

Gave color to my world once so dark;

A life in euphonious clemency,

But not for me did this sweet music bark:

Instead I listened to your symphony.
