Sonnet 26: The Scale of Life

23 2 0

Life's scale works in a manner that's most cruel;

For the more love weighs on my heavy heart,

The more aware I am that I'm a fool;

As I sink and you rise, further we part:

When passion subsides thus lightening the loads,

Balance brings my dish within reach of yours,

But as I see this blessing, my heart grows,

And lopsided again become the scores:

There is no winning at this weighing game,

For to get close to you, I must not care,

At my thought's end, one option does remain,

Choosing not to play, although she played fair:

One word from you and my sleeping heart woke,

Weighing more than lead and the scale it broke.
