A few weeks had passed since that day, and you were managing to cope with your feelings for Heizou. Not too many cases had come up, and when they were, you were on it straight away.
The wintery nights got colder and colder, so there wasn't as much time to hang out after work since it would just be too cold.
You were staying back at the office for a little while, when a letter gets brought to your attention by an exterior assistant. Heizou had gone home for the day, so it was only you in the office.
Sliding your finger under the sealed envelope, you noticed there was no return address. Something didn't feel right. You took out a folded note and placed the envelope down. It was quite unusual for you to get a letter, especially so late in the evening. Opening the parchment, you scanned your eyes over the writing.
Dear Tenryou Detectives,
For your safety, and the safety of the public, please meet with me in Chinju Forest tomorrow evening.
Thank you.
Your heart sank at the words. Safety of the public? What is this person planning?
You grabbed your coat and raced home, stares from the people on the streets of Inazuma City. You frantically unlocked the door and stammered inside. 'H-heizou..look at this..' He was sitting at the table, reading something. He turned and stood up before taking the letter from your hands. Once he read it, a similar flash of concern painted his face. 'Chinju Forest? Why..why Chinju Forest?' He asked, as if you had an answer. The room was silent. You desperately tried to think of who would do this.
You couldn't get to sleep that night. The words on the page echoes through your mind. Who? Who was this person?
Once you woke up, you saw Heizou leaving the bathroom. There was no eye contact. Nothing like before. After that night, you put a wall up for your feelings. But it wasn't the time to dwell on that. You showered and changed as fast as you could. Hanging your vision around your waist, you decided it was only right to get your sword sharpened at the Blacksmiths in the City. 'I'll be back before you know it, alright?' You say to Heizou. 'Wait..this isn't safe. Anything could happen. I don't want you to get hurt.' He pleaded. Something about that he said made your heart smile. 'I'll be fine. It's a five minute walk, i'll be as quick as possible.' You reassured him. You smiled. Genuinely. It's been a while since you did that.
You left the house and made your way to the Blacksmiths down the road. Rest assured, it only took a few seconds for Smithy to sharpen your sword before you were on your way back.
Upon walking home, you felt a pair of eyes on you. Shaking it off, you realised that if anything were to happen, there were people around. It wouldn't co unnoticed.
You opened the door and heard a sigh of relief from Heizou. 'Thank god you're okay. How are you feeling about today?' He asked, looking you up and down. 'It will be alright. Nothing bad can happen. We will be fine.'
The day was spent by the two of you theorising and wondering who this person was, their links to the detectives, and what their motives were. 'We can cancel out Itto. He's practically harmless.' You said, crumpling up a piece of paper.
3pm came around and you decided it was probably best to start walking to Chinju Forest. If you were determined to get there by dusk, you better start walking soon.
