I Always have and I always Will

After what seemed like eternity Wei Ying spoke with a striking fierceness in his voice, the kind Lan Zhan has never heard before.

"Why are you here ?" his tone sharp and accusing.

"I cannot see tears in your eyes Wei ..."

"Lie--

Wei vented the words as hard as he could master. The thickness in his voice not escaping Lan Wangji's ears.

"No ! It's the truth!"

"I would have certainly left..if it had not been for You..."

Wei snatched his words.
"did not you already ?"

Lan Zhan heard the hurt in his tone.

"I can't live with a crestfallen image of you in my mind."

"I thought it to be another phase in my endless life. I thought my meeting with you was just another of the many events in my immortal lifetime that i can leave behind. And i will get over it soon enough like i had before every time we changed cities. But...I...

Lan Zhan chose not to answer that. He said instead,

"I won't stay for long. I am just here to...to see if all's fine--"

He said in his gentle tone. His voice as husky and gripping as before.

Wei Ying felt the old weird beating that his heart always made at his sound. Yet the rage that had him adamant not to forgive, refused to forget the ordeals and hurt he had to face. Slowly his emotions eased and Wei held on to his angst.

If he had not already been dead his heart would have leaped at the sight to watch Wei shattered. But it was dead. So it couldn't feel anything except a sheath of grief that grew bigger with each passing moment. And he realised he had hurt him with another wrong word again.

"I am fine! "

he heard him say with a resolved sharp edge to his otherwise soft tone.

"As fine as I could be."

The tone Lan Zhan noticed was deadly calm.

He could tell it took a great effort on Wei's part to speak those simple words so harsh and coldly. He was breaking inside and Wangji knew that.

He had not come here to stay. Definitely not. But neither would he leave without knowing that he will be fine." he thought in his mind and said aloud-

"I know it was wrong on my part to leave like that. But let's not mourn for the past. Let's get over this. "

Lan Zhan said the words all in one breath and waited. But there came no reply. Not a sound.
