The Truth Comes To the Fore!

Lan Wangji found Haikuan in the forest-surprisingly, with Mr. Wang.

He smelt blood before he saw Haikuan wiping his mouth, the corpse of a leopard at his feet.

Lan Wangji frowned. "That's an endangered species, I assume. You changed?"

"Today, "confirmed Mr. Wang. "Alex brought him over."

"Alex ?" said Wangji sharply. He glanced over at Haikuan." I hope you didn't try anything with her."

Haikuan scowled back at him. "Why? Is she another of your girlfriends? Wei Ying won't be very happy about that."

Wangji merely shrugged off his words.

"Miss Jilang seemed in fine form," confirmed Mr. Wang. " In fact, she threatened to break Haikuan's neck. Not bad for a werewolf, really. Besides, she hates the Jilangs."

Lan Wangji smirked. He wouldn't have expected anything less from Alex.

"Dad, do you mind leaving us alone for a while?" said Wangji. "We've got some things to discuss."

Mr. Wang glanced between them. "Control your temper," he said quietly to Wangji as he left.

"So," drawled Haikuan , once Mr.Wang was gone, "To what do I owe this pleasure, little brother?"

"Stay away from us," Wangji said bluntly. "Go back to your woman or whatever- just get the hell out of mine- and Wei Ying's life."

Haikuan tilted his head to the side and fake-pouted. "Always so drastic, dear brother. And just when Wei Ying and I were becoming such good friends..."

"Really?" Wangji's voice was cold. " Such good friends, that your lover tried to kill him and you did nothing about it?"

Haikuan laughed. "That near drowning? I don't get why you're so pissed. You got to him quick enough, didn't you? Besides, "Haikuan smirked, "Don't tell me it didn't...turn you on."

Lan Wangji's hand was covering his throat in a second." Don't you dare," he hissed. "He could have died, and for you, it's just a joke. I can't believe I actually considered giving you a chance-"

" Just don't make me regret it. Else I won't remember who you are---"

He released him, throwing Haikuan back against a tree, but Haikuan simply bounded back on his feet. The smile vanished from his face, replaced by a calculating look. "Really, Wangji? What would you have me do? Dive down after him ? Or come running to you like your pet puppy and tell you everything? Spoil the effects of my own idea?"

"You?" hissed Wangji, his veins throbbing in fury. "You- you gave her the idea to- to kill Wei Ying ? Didn't you? "

Haikuan shrugged. "Of course. You're easy to manipulate. And of course, I like manipulating..."

"I'm done here," Wangji barked. "Farewell, brother. And may our paths never cross again. At least, pray they do not."

He turned and began to walk away. It was foolish, but a stab of disappointment hit him. Why had he begun to hope?

A slight crack. Haikuan leapt down in front of him.

Wangji rolled his eyes." I have better things to do than flight with a fledgling vampire," he said coldly. Haikuan didn't respond. He simply said, "She was in love with you."
