Alex groaned under her breath as they left Haikuan's cabin.

'Hey,' Wei Ying called, 'What's wrong?'

'Nothing,' said Alex.

Wei Ying raised his eyebrows. 'Nothing?'

Alex pursed up her mouth. Their cubicles were adjacent to each other, so they could talk while they each worked on their respective tasks. 'It's this stupid party,' muttered Alex. 'As if I don't have enough to think about-'

'Hey,' said Wei Ying. 'I can take over, if you like.'

'I can't do that,' Alex replied. 'This is my job-'

'We won't tell anyone,' Wei Ying assured her. 'Let me do it, Alex--- '

'I won't take your credit,' Alex made her statement flatly.

'Oh, stop it,' . Wei Ying shook his head. 'He told us both to do it. He didn't specify exactly how much each of us were supposed to do, right?'

'But-' began Alex.

'No buts,' Wei Ying intervened with his innocent eyes and reassuring smile that could brighten up anyone's day.

'You can send out the invitation cards. Let me do the rest.'

Alex felt a wave of gratitude towards him. The boy was trying his best to help. 'Thanks,' she said, smiling at him. 'I'll just finish my reports-'

'Sure,' Wei Ying smiled, looking at her relaxed face. 'I need to complete this design as well.'

Both fell silent, but Alex remained on tenterhooks, enough to see Haikuan quietly slip away. A nagging worry settled in her stomach. She knew, could feel it- he had gone to HER.

At that moment, Alina felt a surge of hatred so powerful she felt sure she would have at least attempted to kill Qing.

'Alex ?' came Wei Ying's voice from far and she jolted back to her surroundings.

'Is everything okay? You look...strange.'

Wei Ying wasn't that oblivious.

'Yes, I'm fine,' she said, schooling her features. 'Just worried about the party.'

Wei Ying observed her gloomy features but did not press her further. They worked in relative silence throughout, occasionally exchanging a word or shared smiles. Alex wanted to tell Wei Ying exactly who she was...but she would have to wait. She needed to give Wei Ying small bytes of information.

'I won't be driving you home today,' Alex spoke suddenly , smirking as she and Wei Ying were going towards the gates.

Office was over, and now Alex was looking forward to a chat with her best friend.

But Wei Ying's face fell, although he composed himself quickly. 'It's all right,' he said. 'I can manage.'

'Sure,' Alex gave a nod in approval. 'Thanks- for not being mad-'

Wei Ying swatted her. 'Don't be silly. You go get your car, I'll just call a taxi or something.'

Alex grinned as she went alone to the parking, getting into her car. She knew Wei Ying wouldn't be going in a taxi...oh no...she had seen Wei Ying's personal chauffeur waiting outside about five minutes ago.
