Chapter 39

Closure--

The mobile slipped from Wei Ying's hands.
Alex caught it deftly and put it to her own ear.

"Wei Ying ?" came Carmen's voice.

Wei's eyes were wide in shock and horror. Dumbstruck, he watched Alex talk.

"Yeah. Yeah, got it. Yeah, I'm bringing him." She cut the call and handed the phone back to Wei Ying.

"What did she say? Where's Lan Zhan ? Why-" began Wei at once.

"Later," said Alex. "We have to get to the car. I'll drive you there, ok?" Wei nodded. "Thanks."

A few minutes later , he was sitting in the car, adjusting the folds of his clothes as Alex pressed the accelerator. "Alex , my dress!" cried Wei Ying. "I can't meet her like this!"

"And we don't have time to change," Alex talked back, completing his unsaid sentence.

"Hmm... How about this?" Wei's clothes changed into a sparkly black v neck Shirt which barely covered his body, the fabric was so transparent. "Hell, Alex, I can't go like this!" exclaimed Wei in alarm. "This isn't a party, for god's sake!"

"How's this, then?" Alex wriggled her eyebrows.

Wei glared down at himself. He was now wearing a cotton white shirt with a red border. "Are you freaking kidding me?" he burst out.

But Alex was looking perfectly serious- almost too much so. "Okay, then..." Alex frowned as she appeared to deliberate. "Hmm...what would suit the occasion?"

Wei looked down at himself as Alex changed his attire for the third time.

Now, he was wearing a white sleeveless T shirt with a knee length, blue denim shorts. "Fine, but I'll be cold," said Wei.

Alex smirked. "Here you go," she said to him, making the sleeves full length.

Wei Ying stared at Alex. He had a feeling that Alex was enjoying some secret joke...but what?

"Here,"we've reached," before he could think further, Alex pushed the brakes, stopping the car outside the Wang Mansion.

Both hurried inside. "Carmen aunty! What's wrong?" panted Wei as soon as he saw her. "Where's- Wangji---"

"I don't know, exactly," admitted Carmen. She was looking even paler than usual. "I've tried his phone- switched off."

"But-when?" Wei asked, now confused. "When did he leave? And why?"

"He was in a terrible rage," Carmen looked away. "He just walked out the door and took off in his car mid morning. I called after him, but-"

"But why was he angry?" Wei Ying repeated, ignoring the small voice that whispered inside his head that it was probably something that he himself had done.

Carmen said nothing. Wei turned to Alex, who was looking unruffled. "I know where he is," she said calmly. "I could take you to him. He's in a bad temper, though."

Carmen came forward and gripped Wei's arms. "Wei Ying, please. Please go and talk to him. I'm feeling terribly worried. If something bad happens-" she broke off. "Just please go and talk to him."
