Wei Ying was shivering. Alex noticed it, but said nothing as she drove on, well past the speed limit. It was almost 11 pm. She would have to think of something to tell the Chengs ...but what explanation could she give?
She slowed down to a stop outside the Chengs' house and helped Wei Ying out.
Wei clung to her like a child. "Alex-- what have I done?" he choked. "Alex , I-"
"Shh, Wei , Please," said Alex, holding Wei Ying , almost entirely supporting him . "We've come home. I'll take you to your room."

Just as Alex had expected, the Chengs' were wide awake and waiting in the living room. There was another boy there, one she recognized as Huan--- Zu's friend. But now, watching him hold her in an embrace, Alex was almost positive they were more than that.
Mr Feng Mian was the first one to notice them and he sprang to his feet. "Wei ?" he said , shocked.
Zu, Huan and Mrs.Cheng all looked up at them. Wei Ying swallowed.
"Can I take him to his room, Please?" said Alex , attempting to keep her head cool as she formulated an explanation in her head. She led Wei to his room, followed by his family.
"Change and go to sleep, Wei ," said Alex soothingly. "It will all be better soon."
"Please don't leave me," said Wei Ying pleadingly. "Just gimme a sec, Wei , I'll be right back," assured Alex. "OK?"
She hurried outside. "I'm very sorry, guys,"she said. "You see--- a gang of drunks almost got us today. Thankfully Wangji was passing by and he came to our rescue, but Wei Ying fainted from shock-"
"What?" said Mrs Cheng, holding on to her husband, who had gone very pale. Zu gasped out loud.
"-so we took him to my home, till he regained consciousness, and then I drove him here. Please don't bother with questions asking for details now. He is in a delicate condition.."
The Chengs and Huan were all staring at her , stunned. "We have to meet him ," Zu and her father said together. "I don't think that's a good idea," Alex had a firm tone. "He is in shock right now. I think I should stay with him--- just for a while. Just calm him down a bit?"
Without waiting for a reply, she went back to Wei Ying's room, locking the door from inside.
