Chapter 1

Mystery from the Past

Chonging, 2019:

"Qing Lu...Qing Lu...who are you?", muttered Wei Ying as he went through the newspapers of the past one year in the library.

He needed to find out exactly what memories he had lost, and since everyone was hell bent on giving him half-baked lies....Wei Ying decided he wanted proper answers, but the more he found out, the more his confusion grew.

This article about the fire in the forest, for instance...apparently a princess called Qing had been burnt alive, along with her lover.

Wei Ying was confused..why did the name strike bells in his mind? As though he had met her.... But how could he have met someone who had died in the 1850s...? There was something very fishy about the whole thing.

And then there was Lan Zhan!

Impossibly handsome and even more impossibly rude and arrogant!

Wei Ying could not fathom why his heart ached for him.

His family said he'd been hurt by him, and going by his behaviour towards Wei Ying now...It was painfully obvious they'd been speaking the truth. So why was this spark in his heart that refused to die down? Why did Wei Ying feel that this whole thing was a farce, even though it was reality? Why had he even dated him in the first place?

Yes , they dated.

Weird?

Hell, Yes.

But that was in the Past.

Wei Ying left a painful sigh...

Questions, Questions..... He hated anything left unsolved.

Was it all an illusion created by his mind? Cheng had said they were perfect, made for each other...So what had gone so wrong? What had really happened?

That night! The night of Lily's engagement, Wei Ying was prepared to cross his heart and swear a million times that it was Lan Zhan, he had seen under the ice.

Lan Zhan whose voice he had heard when Nei Huisang had had an accident.

Lan Zhan who'd helped Wei Ying prove his innocence to Lang Ling....

Lan Zhan again, who'd pulled him into the freezing water when the wolves had surrounded him.

Wei Ying had seen him, touched him. Then why was he denying all that had passed between them? And who was this Lady Qing, and what did it have to do with Wei Ying?

"Library closed..." announced the cheerful librarian who liked Wei Ying very much.

"I'm sorry, maam, I'll just leave," said Wei Ying, hurriedly getting up. In his hand was clutched the newspaper where the report of the fire had come out.

Wei Ying walked to the forest.

Deeper and deeper he went inside the forest, his mind simply focused on finding the shack that had been burnt . When he reached the spot, he felt a strange sense of anticlimax.

There wasn't any grandeur about the place. It had been gutted, and there was barely anything to suggest the tragedy that had taken place nearly two centuries ago. Wei Ying stared at it for a few moments, and then a curious hissing, spitting noise made him whip around.

Green flames were flaring up a foot around him, forming a flaming circle, the flames strangely fascinating to watch. They gave off no heat, but Wei Ying was sweating with fear. The flames were rising higher now, growing taller and taller....he couldn't see anything.

"Help!"

he cried weakly, without any hope for help, but still determined not to go without trying, at least. He could see nothing except a green haze now, and then he felt his feet leave the ground. Darkness surrounded him, and then Wei Ying felt his feet touch the ground after a few seconds.

There was a strange feeling in his stomach , as though he had been spinning.

Wei Ying opened his eyes, having shut them from fear. He was still in the forest...

Had this been another illusion of his overactive mind? Was he going insane? He got up shakily and looked around.
