━━━━━I SIT NEXT TO THEsimmering pot, sorting out some mushrooms with Lori that we have collected a day ago while Amy's out in the woods searching for more.
"He just cares about you," Lori spoke up, referring to Shane. Her statement makes me look up from my book and at her.
Dale had given it to me in hopes it'd help me with my anxiety and worrisome about my friends... and, Glenn who I couldn't stop thinking about.
It's called, ' To kill a mockingbird ' I can remember vividly reading it my Junior year in Highschool but I wasn't going to tell Dale I already have read this book because I knew he cared and was trying to make me feel better.
"Doesn't look like it." I deny, shaking my head as I place my bookmark ( which is a squashed dandelion I had found in my search for edible plants ) inside before shutting it.
Lori frowned but didn't say anything instead she looked back as Amy began to walk up to us, "Any luck?" She questioned the blond girl.
Amy nods and looks down at her bucket warily as I place down my book and grab a empty bowl. "How do we tell if they're poison?" She asks as she begins pouring them into the bowl I reach out for her.
Lori looks over at me as she hands Amy a spoon to mix the boiling stew and shrugs, "Uh, there's only one sure way I know of." She admits which makes me look over in curiosity.
I thought Shane showed her. The voice in my head screams that something is off but I ignore it. Maybe she just forgot?
Instead my eyes linger on Lori and she shifts under my stare. "Ask Shane when he gets back?" Amy asks but I shake my head and sit up straighter as I look away from Lori.
"No need." I deny it and shrug when they both stare at me, questionably.
"Edible mushrooms will have gills that are attached to the stem, while poisonous ones will have gills that are free from the stem..." I trail off as I inspect the ones she put in my bowl.
