Looking out over the hills from your cliff, you felt your stomach turn. Today is the last day of freedom for you. Tomorrow, you will be sent into the power struggle between the Kitsune Tribe and the Dragon Clan. There hasn't been a winner in centuries. You hope you can put an end to it one day though.

Hearing the shuffling behind you, your hand went to your sword as you turned around. Your best friend Clayton stepping over the bushes with a smile.

"Glad to see you're still cautious as ever." Clayton laughed sitting by you.

Giving him a small smile, you leaned against him as he wrapped an arm around you. The first time you snuck away from home years ago, you came to this valley. It's neutral land, so you knew you would be safe. This is where Clayton found you. The two of you became friends quickly. He's expressed that he hates dragons. It's why you've never told him you were a dragon. Since you're never going to see him again, you're ready to tell him.

"What's with that face." He teased poking your cheek, "You look like you're plotting something."

"Nothing like that." You chuckled, looking back over the hills, "Clayton, I just wanted to let you know that I won't be able to come back here anymore."

You could feel him tense by you, but you couldn't look at him, "Right to the point, as always. Why? Is it your family?"

"It is." You nodded, trying to suppress your tears, "They've decided that the family problem is my problem now. That I need to step up."

"Then leave." He decided as if it was that simple, "That's the whole reason you found this place, isn't it? To hide from everything your parents do that you hate? Stay here and never go back."

"They'll hunt me down and drag me back." You scoffed shaking your head as you stood., "Besides, I can't live out here alone. Believe it or not, I do get lonely at times. I just wanted to let you know that this will most likely be the last time we ever see each other."

"You won't be alone." He objected, grabbing your hands painfully, "I'll stay with you. I love you enough to do it. Just please, don't say goodbye. Please, stay here with me. Keep being my best friend."

Blinking at him, you almost couldn't believe what you were hearing. Clayton has always been very prideful. He shows off to you every chance he gets. Sometimes it's funny, other times it really does impress you. You've never heard him beg like he is now though. He almost sounded desperate. You know his home life is almost as bad as yours. Though, like you, he won't go into detail. You've both respected each other's boundaries by not prying. He doesn't really know you though. If he knew you were a dragon, you're sure he would kill you.

"You don't love me." You shook your head, trying to pull away, "You despise me. Once you really know me, you'll leave me."

"I never would do that to you." He assured you, before suddenly pulling you into a kiss, "I really love you, (Y/N). As cheesy as it is, I can't live without you. You're the only thing that makes me happy."

"No, you don't." You growled, pushing him away harshly, "You don't know me. You don't love me. We have so many secrets from each other that there is no way we could really love each other. We're just better off as friends. Now we won't even be able to be that. Now I'm asking you not to make this any harder than it is."

"Then show me." He yelled, "I can prove it to you. I won't hate you. Show me everything about you. I will still love you until the day I die, because I know it's the only thing, I feel for you."

Finally getting tired of the arguing, you let your body change. Feeling your wings, claws, and fangs form. Your complete, (F/C) dragon body. Looking down at him, you saw what you knew you would. Fear on his face as he looked up at you. His hand on the handle of his sword. You knew he would do that, but it still hurt to see.
