Families weren't up your ally, not at all. You loved Arthur. That. Was. It. You did not want kids and you had talked with Arthur and he didn't either.

So when you had started throwing up daily and gaining weight, you hadn't been suspicious. You had tried to be careful when it came to Arthur pulling out, but sometimes you guys forgot. That was normal.

But when you realised you hadn't gotten you period in two months, you knew something was up. You had obviously wanted to discuss this with Arthur but there was a lot on his plate at the moment, and you had moved to a new camp as well, far away from the memories of Valentine. It had felt safe there, new, filled with hope. You couldn't help but feel differently about this place. It felt negative, like a downward spiral towards something worse.

It was too hard to keep your thoughts inside and even if you felt you couldn't tell Arthur right now, you had to tell somebody.

"Hey, Abigail, can I ask you something kind of private?" you chew on your lip, approaching the dark haired woman. You had always liked Abigail and gotten along with her well, so you thought you could trust her with this information.

"Sure, Y/N, do you want to come sit over by the lake? That's the only good thing 'bout this place, that we can get the fish from the lake. Other than that, it's way too hot for my liking. Dusty, too," she chatted as you both walked in the direction of the vast body of water. She shot you a confused look as you started ahead, sitting down a fallen log. "What's going on with you, Y/N. It ain't like you to avoid a chance to complain about this place."

"I'm sorry, Abigail, I just got a lot on my mind," you sighed,"I think....well I'm not sure, I'd need to see a doctor but...well, I think I'm pregnant."

Abigail's mouth opened in a smile, until she saw that you weren't smiling. "Is that a good thing, or a bad thing?" She questioned, putting a hand on your knee.

"I don't know, Abigail, I haven't told Arthur, or anyone, for that matter," you murmured,"I never thought I was cut out to be a mother."

"Y/N, that's crazy talk and you know it," Abigail exclaimed, leaning towards you,"you would be a wonderful mother. And you know what? Arthur would be a wonderful father, too. You've both always been amazing to my Jack, better than his own damn father. So don't doubt yourself, honey."

You felt the words sink in, and pictured yourself raising a child with Arthur, the man you loved so dearly. "Thank you, Abigail, that means a lot," you smiled, standing up. "I know it's a lot to ask, but do you think you'd be able to accompany me to the doctors? I don't want to go alone."

"Y/N, you don't have to go alone. I'm sure that Arthur would go with you, you know." Abigail shook her head. "But of course I'll come."

—————————————————————
You shuddered as the travelling doctor in Rhodes felt your stomach with his gloved hands. Despite having nothing against their work, you feared doctors. They had brought nothing but bad news in the past. You still couldn't quite decide if this baby was good news or bad news. You knew it wasn't bad, you had finally come to accept that. But it also didn't necessarily feel good either.

"Well, miss, you're certainly pregnant," the doctor finally announced, "you seem to be around three to four months along, meaning you will most likely give birth in five or so months. Congratulations."

You let out a deep sigh, and Abigail put her arm around your shoulder. You thanked and paid the doctor in what felt like slow motion.

Abigail led you to a bench off the Main Street of Rhodes. "Are you alright?" She asked, her hand still on your shoulder.

How could you possibly be alright? You were pregnant and you hadn't even told Arthur. You both didn't want kids. You didn't know the first thing about being a mother. This could only end badly, couldn't she see that?

"I don't know," you snarled,"I don't fucking know, Abigail," you stood up swiftly, marching towards your horse, which you knew you shouldn't even be riding because you were fucking pregnant. You couldn't go to the saloon to forget your troubles either.

Everything felt like it was going wrong.

You rode to your favourite place, a hidden path that led down to a small fishing hole. Sitting down by the bank, you felt all the weight on your shoulders come down on top of you.

You never ever cried. You were tougher than that. So how come when you pushed the hair out of your eyes, your fingers were wet? It was already too late to go back. You were going to be a mother and you were going to have to tell Arthur. It just felt wrong to bring a child into this world when you were a wanted criminal. But you were here now and you had to face it.

"Y/N?" You jumped as Arthur's familiar voice called your name. Of course. You had told Arthur about this place.

Hurriedly wiping the tears from your eyes, you avoided his concerned gaze. "What are you doing hiding out here? Abigail told me you needed to talk to me."

"Hmph. Of course she did. Can't mind her own fucking business," you muttered through clenched teeth.

"Hey, she means well, you know that. Come here," Arthur said softly, sitting down beside you and pulling you close to his chest. You couldn't help but relax into his body, the familiar smell of leather and cigarettes. "Tell me, Y/N, whatever it is it can't be that bad." He was being comforting but you could feel his heart pounding through his shirt as you leant into him.

"I'm pregnant," you mumbled into his chest.

You felt his body stiffen. You felt you could practically hear both of your hearts pounding. You meant back, scanning his face. Why wasn't he saying anything?

In a rush, he leant in and kissed you, an excited kiss, holding you close. "Are you joking right now?" He laughed.

"No," you couldn't help but join in with his laughter,"Arthur, I thought you'd be mad."

"Mad at you? For me getting you pregnant? I couldn't be happier," he said gently, stroking your hair.

"But you always said you didn't want kids," you remembered.

"I just said that because you didn't want them. It was up to you in the end, Y/N. But you know you'll be an amazing mother, right?"

"I love you," you kissed him hard and it was finally reassuring to know that everything was going to be alright.
