"I'm getting married!" your friend from work, Emma, tells you.
"Oh my God! Are you kidding?" you gasp and cover your mouth with your hand.
"No, I'm not. This is happening!" she shows you the ring on her finger.
"This is amazing, I'm so happy for you" tears roll down your cheeks as you both jump around in each other's arms.
"Tell me all about it" you excitedly move your heads left and right.
You stayed with her during your lunch break and with that great vibe you got back to work. You only spoke to Tony for a little bit to ask him if you could meet later. This is why you drove to his office after work and found him. There were still many people at Stark Industries even if it was well after 5, but that just makes sense considering who their boss is.
"Hey" you smile, standing at the frame of his office door.
"Hey, babe" he looks at you for a brief second before looking back at his laptop screen.
You sigh and take slow steps until you reach his desk. You let him continue his work and you sit down on a chair, waiting patiently. No matter how much you look at him, he doesn't get his eyes off his screen, thing that annoys you. And your mood isn't the best one already, he just makes it worse.
"Should I leave?" you roll your eyes.
"No, of course not. I'm just finishing this little thing" he replies.
The more you hear the sound of the keyboard clicking when he types, the more you run out of patience. You talked about you visiting him at his office and he still doesn't give you any attention at all.
"I'm going, let me know when you find some time for me" you shake your head and stand up instantly.
You walk towards the door but he catches up with you with his fast steps and stops you before you reach it. He pushes the door to close and spins you around to face him. It's clear on your face that you're not happy, he couldn't have missed that.
"I'm sorry" he says nicely and takes your hand in his.
He lifts it all the way to his lips and places a soft kiss on it, finally showing you some affection.
"Come back there with me" he suggests and you nod.
He takes you by your hands and you approach the desk once again. He takes a seat on a chair and pulls you on his lap. You get comfortable there and rest your body on his chest. Hearing and feeling his breathing calms you down slightly and he notices.
"How are you?" he asks.
"Fine" you reply but your voice shows off your true feelings.
"You don't sound fine. What's wrong?" he understands and asks you again.
"Emma is getting married" you try to sound as happy as you can.
"That's-Are we not happy about that? We don't like the guy or something?" he creases his eyebrows, trying to understand the problem.
"No, of course not. I'm super excited. And James is a great guy, I'm truly happy for her" you explain.
"Then what's the problem?" he asks.
"Emma is getting married, another woman from work is pregnant, and what am I doing? I feel like our relationship isn't moving forward at all" you express your concerns.
"I thought we were good, where is this coming from?" his voice is quiet as he kisses the side of your head.
"We are good. I just wish you would show me a sign that you see this -us- seriously and not just like someone you're spending your time with for some period of time" you sigh.
"I do see us seriously. I love you" he hugs you tightly.
"That's what you say" you sound disappointed.
"Come on, baby. I mean it" he kisses you again.
"Can you maybe, I don't know, show it to me somehow? I mean, how do I know you see a future with us? We've been dating for more than a year and nothing has actually changed since day one" you insist.
"What do you want me to do, Alice? Should we have a baby because your colleague is having one?" he chuckles ironically.
"No, this is nothing like what I'm saying. All I'm asking is for a small step forward for our relationship" you're slowly losing your hope that he indeed sees you seriously.
"And what is that? Tell me and I'll gladly do it" he says.
"I don't know exactly. You can ask me to move in with you, or bring some of my stuff there or maybe we can exchange keys to our houses" you throw ideas on the table.
"I don't even have a key to my own house, JARVIS just lets me in" he makes a joke out of this and triggers your patience.
"Ok, fine, I get it" you breathe out and try to stand up from his lap.
"No, you don't. I was simply making a joke" he pulls you back down.
"Ha ha,very funny, Tony. Good job" you say sarcastically.
"I apologise" he says normally and hugs you.
You stay in silence, you said everything you wanted to say already. He knows what you want and are asking for, he can make it happen or not. It's completely up to him.
"JARVIS, give Alice access to the house and the restricted areas of Stark Industries" he finally speaks.
"Really?" you quickly turn your head to face him in shock.
"Yes, really. You're right, this has been long overdue" he nods.
"Authorisation given, sir" the A.I. replies moments later.
"This is the closest I can get to offering you a key" he smiles at you.
"It's great, thank you so much" a smile appears all over your face.
"You're welcome" he smiles harder.
"Does that mean I no longer have to ask from Pepper to give me access in the lab?" you ask with high hopes.
"That's exactly what it means, yes" he chuckles.
"Finally!" you say with satisfaction, making him laugh.
"I'll give you a key as soon as possible" you reassure him.
"Okay, as long as you're happy" he kisses you.
"I am, I really am" you wrap your arms around his neck and hold him close.
"Then I'm happy, too" he says, lets his head rest against yours and hugs you tighter.
With that relaxing tone and the sound of his breathings calming you down, you take in his smell and comfort and feel the love surrounding you.
