It's the day. The day you've been waiting for for months. The conference. You've all worked so hard on this and hopefully it'll pay off tonight.
You've bought a stunning dress for the occasion. The high hopes of winning the price and having to share the scene with Ethan demand a dress as sparkling and expensive as this one.
Your date for the night is your friend and colleague, Sebastian. It would definitely have been Tony but circumstances don't allow it anymore, so you're going with a friend.
Tony will be there for sure, but the question is who will be by his side. You're not sure that you can handle seeing him with another woman by his side. You can only pray that it will be Pepper, knowing that at least he hasn't slept with her.
"Are you ready?" Sebastian asks when you open the door of your house.
"Yes, let me just freshen up my perfume" you say and he nods, patiently waiting by the door as you apply more perfume.
"You look amazing by the way. That dress is....wow" he smiles widely.
"Thank you, I really love your suit" you compliment him back.
"Thanks. I really hope I can impress a special someone tonight" he blushes.
You know very well who he's referring to. He has a crush at work and he's shared that with you in the past. You actually thought he'd finally ask her out tonight, to be his date, since it's a big event and she'll definitely attend it but he didn't do it and you're going together.
"Maybe you should start with talking to her tonight" you tease him.
"I-I-I might, no promises" he stutters.
"It's okay, I'm not pressuring you, take your time" you say.
"Thank you, I'm doing my best" he answers.
"It's just that it's been months of you only staring at her and hoping that you will magically be together. It's obviously not working yet" you raise your eyebrows.
"I know, thanks for the reminder" he says sarcastically.
"You're welcome, let's go" you hug his arm and close the door behind you.
You walk together to his car and he makes sure you've settled in first before he gets inside as well. Once you arrive at the conference your stomach starts to tighten. You're nervous about the result, about Tony, about how you look, about the speech you might possibly give.
Everything just stresses you out but thankfully it gets better when you pose for the red carpet. You took some pictures with Sebastian because you arrived together but you mostly posed alone. You never used to do this, Tony was always next to you for stuff like this. It does feel a little weird but it's also refreshing, having all the spotlight alone.
"That was something" you giggle with Sebastian as you enter the room.
Your eyes quickly scan the place. Mostly to see how it's decorated and planned but also because you're looking for Tony. You can't get the idea that he's with some other woman here out of your head. But he's not here. Of course he's not, it's way too early. He has to be late everywhere he goes, that's his signature move.
"Guys! You're here" you hear Anne.
She's sitting with the rest of your company employees that are attending the conference, including Ethan and his interesting choice of a date. Definitely a way too young woman that he's only seeing for a couple of dates and then not remembering her name. Reminds you of someone, doesn't it?
"You look so hot, oh my God" Anne says enthusiastically and hugs you.
"Thank you" you blush and take off your coat.
