(Y/N)'s P.O.V

It's only been a few weeks since the Collector took over and already things were complete chaos. By some miracle, Hexside had become a safe haven for those who had managed to survive the initial deployment of the strange killer stars.

Although the school was somewhat fortified, someone still had to keep watch. Just to make sure that nothing unexpected came their way.

Mattholomule was on first watch tonight. He'd been sitting on the roof of the school, his location hidden by a simple illusion spell which allowed him to remain undetected. But his shift was up, which is where I came in.

"I'm here to relieve you of your watch duty. You've been up here for hours." I smile slightly, taking a seat next to my friend.

"Oh, hey, (Y/N)," he greets, his eyes still glued to the horizon. "I didn't realise that I'd been up here for that long." He shrugs with a smile, turning to look at me.

"How are you not freezing up here? Titan it's cold tonight."

"Eh it's not that bad, you get used to it I suppose. Here." He grins, passing me his cloak that he had started wearing recently. "The cold doesn't bother me too much."

I thank him silently and pull the cloak closer, being thankful at the instant warmth that it brought. The smile on my lips drops slightly when I see the distant look in Matt's eyes.

"You doing ok there, Matt?" I softly ask, knowing that he doesn't particularly like talking about feelings and stuff.

"What? Of course I'm doing ok. Why wouldn't I be?" He quickly becomes defensive, shutting the conversation down quickly.

Mattholomule stood up quickly, seemingly going to leave. He takes a few steps away and stops, not letting his shoulders drop.

I sigh and turn slightly, looking back at the boy who has his back facing me. I take a moment to think, deciding weather or not to push the topic further.

"You've been putting a lot of stress on yourself recently. Between being a captain, making plans to better the shelter and stopping people from tearing each other apart, you haven't really had a chance to unwind. I just want to check in."

The boy lets out a sigh and sits back down next to me, resting his chin on his knees.

"I guess there is a lot going on. I haven't had a proper chance to think about it."

"Im here to listen. What's really on your mind, Matt?"

"Honestly, I'm worried about Gus, and Luz, and my brother, and just everyone that we've lost." He finally admits, lowering his head. "We've lost so many people to the Collector and everything is just a mess!" He yells out, waving his arms around for emphasis. "Everything just sucks right now." The boy sighs, holding his head in his hands.

I hesitate, not knowing how best to comfort my friend. He'd never been one to show much vulnerability, always adorning a cocky and indifferent attitude. After a moment, I wrap my arm around his shoulder and pull him into a hug.

"I know everything sucks. But just know, as long as I'm here, I'm going to do everything I can to make it suck a little less."

"Thanks, (Y/N). I needed to hear that. You're a really good friend."

"Get some sleep, Matt. It's my turn for watch duties now."

Me updating somewhat regularly? Something must be wrong.

It's kinda short but I didn't have much inspiration for this one.

As usual I hope that you're all having a bloody amazing day/night/whatever time you're reading. You all better be getting enough sleep, drinking water and most of all staying positive.

That's all from me so I'll see ya later mates 😁
