"32 times!"
"What?"
The school day had just ended but volleyball practice was just about to start. Iwaizumi had almost forgotten about his mission seeing as Makki and Mattsun had been looking out for him.

"Oikawa looked at you 32 times! Well, we caught him looking 32 times, he may have even looked at you more."
"Yeah, and there was one time we caught him looking at you for 3 minutes and 24 seconds straight! Well- gay- in his case."

"Wait seriously!?" Iwaizumi was beginning to get more and more convinced that he had a chance. That didn't make him any less nervous however. But he wondered if he even needed to continue with this phase of the plan with the results he'd received today.

"Sorry I'm late guys! I got caught up talking to a friend." Oikawa ran in to the gym out of breath. "You're not even late dumbass." Mattsun said with a chuckle.
"Oh well why are you all here already?" Oikawa asked, suspicious.
"We we're just helping Iwaizumi with this thing-" Iwaizumi gave Makki a nudge.

"Uh yeah- he had this new strategy for volleyball and he wanted our advice." Mattsun saved.
Oikawa started to kick up a fuss about why he wasn't invited to their little meeting but the boys just laughed it off awkwardly, leaving Oikawa slightly puzzled.

The rest of the team arrived shortly and practice begun. "We'll try and watch Oikawa as best as we can but it may be difficult since we're going to be playing volleyball at the same time." Mattsun whispered to Iwaizumi.
"Actually guys, don't worry about it anymore. After what ive heard just from today, I don't think I need any more information haha."

Iwaizumi wanted to spend the rest of the day with Oikawa just being normal rather than worrying about whether his crush was looking at him.

Practice continued as it normally would, Oikawa improving his sets and serves and Iwaizumi his spikes. Occasionally, the two would practice together, finding that their skills complemented each other perfectly.

The rest of the team watched in awe as Oikawa set the ball up high and Iwaizumi slammed it down to the ground. It was no question that Iwaizumi was the team's best spiker and Oikawa the best setter- along with his serves.

Despite this, Oikawa still had his doubts sometimes and would constantly compare himself to his former teammate Kageyama. But Iwaizumi would always be there to remind him of how great he is, soon regretting it when Oikawa would get cocky.

The team surrounded the boys, complementing their movements. Iwaizumi decided he should let some of the others have a turn practicing with Oikawa, so he went off to practice his spikes himself.

He couldn't help but watch Oikawa, his flawless form and the way he jumped while setting the ball up high, landing effortlessly on the ground. He looked so pretty. His concentrating face was one of his best looks and Oikawa knew this. He often used it in selfies and photos.

But nothing was greater than his smile. Especially the smile on his face that came after making the perfect set for his teammate. Oikawa's smile was contagious and Iwaizumi found himself smiling just thinking about it.

Makki and Mattsun were laughing to themselves as they watched Iwaizumi. They had spent all day watching Oikawa look at Iwaizumi and it came as no surprise to them to see Iwaizumi doing the same thing. It was almost exhausting watching the pair. They were just so oblivious, well, mainly Oikawa since Iwaizumi had started to catch on now.

Practice soon ended and all four boys walked home together. Makki and Mattsun held hands as they walked while Iwaizumi and Oikawa linked arms as they normally would.

"Your sets are improving a lot Oikawa"
"Aww thanks Iwa! Your spikes are getting better too." There it was again, that infectious smile. Iwaizumi almost had to use his hand to physically stop a smile forming on his own face.

"I'll see you tomorrow Iwa." Iwaizumi hadn't noticed but they'd reached their houses. He hadn't been focussing on the walk home and he thought that if Oikawa hadn't been holding his arm, he would have gotten lost or walked out into traffic or something. His mind was set on his plan and his heart was set on the boy who had been walking next to him.

Iwaizumi held his hand up to wave, standing in the road as he watched Oikawa walk away with a smile. The atmosphere was so dull and grey that all the light clung to Oikawa as if he were a star. Iwaizumi was struggling to make out if Oikawa was actually glowing or if it was in his head. Despite that being impossible Iwaizumi wasn't even sure.

He almost didn't get it. Oikawa was so amazing, almost like a piece of artwork in a golden frame. Why did Oikawa even hang out with him? Iwaizumi didn't feel sad as he pondered this, but genuinely confused. It was a fact that Oikawa was physically attractive. He was popular, kind and extremely annoying at times. But he was also hated, he'd been hurt. Both physically and emotionally. Emiko made a huge impact and yet, she still couldn't get rid of Oikawa's spark. He'd seen it today, almost physically. Like he had a golden aura surrounding him.

Iwaizumi couldn't believe how much Oikawa had been mistreated. Most of all, he couldn't believe that he, himself had mistreated Oikawa. He suddenly felt angry. He'd felt so happy and almost light headed just a moment ago but suddenly that had changed.

He laid in bed and stared at the ceiling. He wondered if he even deserved Oikawa. Suddenly, his anger and guilt turned to sadness. He wasn't sure why he was feeling all of these emotions and why they were changing so rapidly. All he knew was that love is complicated and often painful.

Iwaizumi couldn't help but feel as though everything that happened with Emiko was his fault. Sure he had no control over her actions but if he'd never become her boyfriend in the first place or even if he'd just believed Oikawa from the start then none of this would have happened.

Iwaizumi suddenly decided that his plan was stupid. He'd finally got Oikawa back and he wasn't about to lose him without telling him how he felt. He hoped he would never have to lose him again but just as a precaution, he would need to confess soon, regardless of whether or not Oikawa felt the same.

He also realised that he'd been wrong. Just because he made mistakes, that doesn't mean he doesn't deserve Oikawa. However, he would need to do everything in his power to make it up to him.

The plan was stupid anyway. He'd been overthinking everything and Iwaizumi didn't want to do that anymore. He just wanted to be honest and upfront and wanted honesty in return. Truthfully, he was desperate for an answer too, and wasn't sure how much longer he could wait.

He still wanted to plan something big. Something flashy and glamorous but also private, just the two of them. Iwaizumi didn't want a crowd and he was sure Oikawa would either. Oikawa loved attention but when it came to serious things like his love life, he knew he would rather keep that private.

But now came the hard part. Iwaizumi wasn't sure what to do at all. Should he just show up at his door one day unannounced and surprise him?

He decided to ask Makki and Mattsun for help since his brain was already fried from all the overthinking. He texted them in their private group chat and the boys replied almost immediately. They were so excited that this was finally happening.

They suggested different ideas for a while but none of them sounded right. That was until Mattsun suggested a picnic. Iwaizumi decided he liked that idea. He would just need to make a few minor changes.

Hiya!! I didn't take too long this time! (I hope). Anyways, I was getting kinda bored with the plan thing already and I think it would take way too long to write about every tiny step. Besides, it was a bit dramatic 😅 I'm honestly making this up as I go along (tho I still have the ending in mind) so I hope this is okay. Anyways, if you're reading this, I love you so much! I'm so happy my story is getting attention!! 🥰
