Chapter 12: Bait (Angsty)

[Mario's POV]

Peach, Toad, and I were on our way to the jungle kingdom. We all knew it was gonna be hard to convince them, but I think I can make sure Donkey Kong and his dad don't say no.

The gate opened, and the same Kong as before greeted us. We got into the car and got driven to the 'Palace' again. All of us got out and went inside.

We went over to the throne. It took us a while, but we finally convinced them. Luckily, Peach had brought her pipe to the dark lands.

Donkey Kong hit my arm with excitement, "I still hate you, but I'm always in for some adventure." I just chuckled and rubbed my arm over the place he hit.

If I'm being honest, I was excited, too. But not excitement for the adventure. I had excitement to see my brother again.

If Bowser hasn't killed him already.. I shouldn't think like that! He's obviously alive. He's - he's okay.. I hope..

Toad got in front of me, which brought me back to reality. Like my brother, I also get lost in thoughts a lot. Just not as much as now.

We all jumped into the pipe, one by one. I immediately got excited, I can't wait to see my baby brother again! Oh, how I hope he isn't hurt!

[Luigi's POV]

I was walking around the castle again, lost in thoughts as always. While I was walking, I saw Kamek and Bowser standing in the middle of the hallway. They seemed to be talking to each other.

I silently got closer and hid behind a plant, close enough to hear them.

"But Sire, they've got the Kongs army! Why won't you just give that green one up!?"

Bowser sighed, "The green one has a name, and as long as we have him. We have a distraction!"

"Sire, he seems to be more to you than just a distraction. But if he really is a distraction, you wouldn't mind it if we used him as bait. A bait we can harm in front of Mario, to weaken him!"

What!? Me as a bait!? If Junior's siblings were right, and Bowser actually liked me. He wouldn't allow Kamek to use me as bait!

[Bowser's POV]

Shit. If I say no now, Kamek would immediately know I have a soft spot for Luigi. I sighed, I couldn't let them (Kamek) know that I even had a soft spot.

"Alright then, we'll use Luigi as bait." Kamek's face went from shocked to excited in very few seconds.

"Very well, Sire, I will prepare the plan." They teleported away after that. I sighed.

I didn't want to hurt Luigi like I did before.. no. This is all to get back at his brother for stealing my Peach. If it meant I had to hurt him, it meant that. I shouldn't care for someone like him!

I walked towards my room, not looking back. I closed the door behind me and sat down on my bed. It's either now or never. I'd rather have Peach here than Luigi anyway. Peach is much less troubling.

Yet the kids seem to like Luigi more. The interview they did made me question so many things. Why couldn't they mind their own business!?

But Peach.. she's a princess, she's beautiful in every way. But then again, I don't want to disappoint my kids...

[Luigi's POV]
(This is his POV right after Bowser said he'd use Luigi as bait)

It felt as if an arrow went through my heart. I waited until they were both gone, before I ran to my room. Why did it hurt so badly? I didn't expect him to stand up for me anyway.

Just.. hearing him actually say it.. it hurt.. it hurt me physically.. it hurt me mentally..

I hid my face in my hands as the tears rolled down my cheeks. Why.. the night I spent in his room. It made me believe he actually had a good side! It made me.. see him differently..

Why must've I been so stupid to fall for someone like him!? I should've expected this to happen! But.. I just didn't want my thoughts to come true..

I could feel my body had begun to shake while I was crying. I took away the hands from my face and looked at them. My teary eyes saw how badly I was shaking.

I tried taking deep breaths, but it didn't seem to work. I kept crying. It wouldn't stop. I looked down, and I tried to stop the shaking by holding onto my legs. It didn't work.

While I was trying, I felt a smaller hand covering mine. I tried to wipe away my tears with the other, but even with teary eyes. I could see that it was Junior.

The moment I realised who it was, his siblings had already entered the room. They all surrounded me and hugged me from many sides. It calmed me down.

I took deep breaths and wiped away the tears. I could hear them all much clearer now. One was asking why I was crying. Others were asking what had happened. All similar questions, yet worded differently.

Junior was trying to get onto my leg, so I helped him and put him down on my lap. He immediately hugged me. I hugged him back carefully so I wouldn't touch any of the spikes on his back.

"What happened, Papa?" I didn't even hear what he called me because of the others.

"Nothing I can't handle, Thanks for.. helping, though."

Junior raised his eyebrow, "Nothing you can't handle!? You were shaking like you always did when talking to dad! Maybe even worse!"

Was it really that bad? I sniffed, "There's no need to worry, bud. I was just.. thinking too much again."

At first, he didn't seem to believe me. But after a minute or two, he just said, "Well, we came to get you for dinner. We should probably go before dad notices."

I got up and went to the dining room, Junior and his siblings were following me. We all sat down, and I sat on the same seat as always. This time, I hadn't looked one time at Bowser.

I just stared at my plate, I wasn't really hungry. Bowser nudged me and pointed at my food, as if he wanted me to eat. I already know he doesn't care.

The kids all left, except Junior. Junior stayed only because I didn't want to worry him even more, I just started eating slowly. The silence in the room was killing me.

I didn't even fully finish, I just gave the food I hadn't eaten to Junior. He smiled happily before leaving, too. I got up and was about to go back to my room, but I got stopped by Bowser's hand.

Back to seriousness, I almost started crying while writing this lmao. Onto chapter 13! And like I said before, it's either soon or I fell asleep again. >:)
