Chapter 26: Stress

[Junior's POV]

I could bet all of the coins I have in my wallet that dad and Papa Luigi (he'll call Bowser dad and Luigi Papa) did weird stuff together! I went through the vent from my room to the vent in their room.

I looked at the bed and saw them spooning against each other. Awhh!! They looked so cute! Though Papa did look a lot smaller... eh, size difference doesn't matter.

I lowered myself to hide because I noticed dad was moving in a way that usually meant he woke up. I could still see them.

I watched as dad held Papa against himself. It was hard to hear what he said to Papa, but I think he said good morning. Then I could see that Papa had also opened his eyes.

He turned around and laid against dad. They look so adorable together! It's also been a while since I've seen Papa without his hat. I don't know why, but his hair always looked fluffy.

He closed his eyes again, "I have to get up, Luigi. We can't lay here forever, no matter if I wanted to or not." Right, dad still has his 'royal jobs' to do. Bleh... way to kill the moment.

They gave each other a small kiss, and dad got up. Papa stayed on the bed and sat up so he could see dad working. He looked at his back and laid back down, with his stomach on the back this time.

Hmm, what could that mean? Maybe his back was hurting? I should go ask Kamek.

I went back into the vent as silently as possible, got out in my room, climbed down, and went over to Kamek's room. I know they get mad if I don't knock, so I knocked before going in.

They turned around and looked at me, "What do you need help with this time, Junior?"

"Well, when I went into dad's room, Papa Luigi seemed like he was hurt somewhere near his back. Do you know what happened?"

Their face turned shocked really quickly. They looked at me and looked around. Hmm, were they trying to hide the answer from me!?

[Kamek's POV]

What excuse am I supposed to make up for this!? Junior is far too young to know what they did. Yet Junior always finds out when I lie in some way... just gotta make up an excuse.

I gulped, "Perhaps his back was still hurting from his fall." Junior looked at me suspiciously, "That was already a while ago. Why would it STILL hurt?"

Hmm, it seems like this might work. If it doesn't, I'll wish Bowser good luck explaining it to him. "Maybe he already had a bad back before, and the fall worsened it."

I said it the most confident way possible, while I wasn't confident at all. He looked at me even more suspiciously, but normal again when he replied, "You're probably right."

Phew, I can't fully ruin this kid's innocence. I patted his head, and he left again. Hmm, I could sense something was going wrong again.

Minutes later, a koopa guard entered the room, "Mario's coming again! He's got backup!" I knew something was wrong! "I will inform King Bowser immediately. Thank you for telling me."

I patted the koopa's head, and they smiled before going away. I grabbed my wand and poofed to Bowser's room. "Sire! Sire!"

"What is it? I'm kind of busy right now." He did seem busy, but also seemed troubled by something. Ah, well. "Mario is coming again, and he has backup!"

I noticed Luigi sit up from the bed. Now I know why his back was hurting... I turned back to Bowser. He had his hands on his head.

"Sire? Are you alright?" I asked worriedly. He sighed deeply before turning to me, "How far is he already?"

"The guard didn't give me that information. You should take a quick break, because you seem stressed." - K

"I'll be fine without a break... you should make a plan to catch him. Make sure it does NOT involve hurting Luigi." - B

He won't be fine, and I know it. I looked over at Luigi, who also noticed how Bowser was acting. I know I can't convince him to take a break anyway, so I just nodded and poofed away.

[Bowser's POV]

This damn list felt like it kept getting longer and longer. My headache wasn't really helping either. I have to finish this all before Mario comes here.

Halfway through, I'm exhausted. Luigi's just laying there and doing nothing. He could at least be nice and help me...

Right, he was probably still hurt from yesterday. Out of all the days we could've done it, we do it a day before one of the busiest days for me. Smart scheduling.

I looked back at the paper and felt my headache getting worse by the second. I rubbed my hands over my head, hoping it would make the headache disappear.

I felt Luigi's hand on my shoulder and looked at him, "Are you okay? You've been working for a while. Take a break and relax for some time."

"Luigi, I can't -"

"No, it wasn't a question. Take a break and relax. You deserve it. I'll work on the rest of it so you won't overwork yourself."

I sighed. He wouldn't take no as an answer. "Fine." I got up from my chair, and he watched me until I laid down in the bed. Before I knew it, I fell asleep.

[Luigi's POV]

Now that he FINALLY took that break. It's time for me to do his work so he doesn't have to work 24/7. I sat in his chair and started doing his job.

Hmm, that's why he was taking so long. He's not the best when it comes to math, and most of these questions were mathematical.

Once I was done with the hard parts, I went to grab a glass of water for myself. Walking wasn't really convenient, but I survived. When I came back into the room, Bowser was snoring LOUDLY.

I sat back down on the chair, sipped from the glass, and continued working again. His snoring was... very distracting. I won't wake him up... he needs sleep... I can do this!

After an hour of him snoring while I was trying to do his job for him... I kept getting distracted by stuff. I sighed, drank the last bit of water, and continued working.

Another hour later, he was still snoring. I had a headache by this point. 'Just a few more tasks, I can do this.' I thought to myself. I sighed deeply before continuing.

Hopefully, his snoring would get less distracting.

I finally finished his tasks. I laid down against him and quickly fell asleep, too.
