One Month Later

"Have you heard anything from Detroit?" Adam asked, he was getting frustrated with all the politics involved in the Thompson case, they dropped the charges on the plot to have Kim and him killed the attorney citing entrapment and the judge agreeing.

"Nothing" he replied "I'm just as aggravated as you Ruzek, but my hands are tied for the time being" he said as he pulled out a binder "how's Kim?"

Adam jammed his hands in his pockets, "she's not saying much, and she stays at her place most nights" he wasn't thrilled with it, but she insisted on being at her place that Ray wasn't going to control her anymore.

"If it makes you feel better, we have patrol cars checking her place out hourly" he told him.

"It does, but I wish she would stay with me" he sighed.

"Close the door and sit" Hank told him, once Adam was seated he began "I don't know all the details of what she went through, but what she's doing now, she's trying to find her strength again" he said "staying with you all the time, doesn't help her do that, she needs to find her independence again"

Adam agreed "I get that, I do" he said leaning on the desk "I don't like her being alone with Ray not locked up in a cell"

"One thing you can count on is Ray won't step one foot in Chicago, if he does his ass will be in custody so fast he won't know what hit him"

"How's Ruzek?" Sean Roman asked Kim while they waited for their food to arrive, Kim just coming back to work the previous week.

Kim checked her cell phone, she had a few missed calls and a few texts from Adam "he's suffocating me" she said, she loved him but he was hovering something awful "don't even say it" she said raising her hand "I understand, I'm just glad he went back to work today" she hoped that if he was back at work he would have a distraction.

Sean laughed "cut him some slack, your ex is a grade a asshole" their food finally arriving, "Adam is just worried about you, give him some time"

"Raymond" Evelyn Thompson called from the bottom of the stairs "we need to talk about Kim" she knew her son was still trying to reclaim his ex-wife, she couldn't understand why, the girl wasn't worth it. Kim Burgess was not nearly good enough for her son, quite frankly no one was in her opinion.

"Mother" Ray said as he came down the stairs, "nothing to talk about, I don't want to be with her" he told her and he didn't he just wanted her and he douchebag boyfriend gone.

Evelyn raised an eyebrow at her son, "how come I have a hard time believing you?" She asked as they sat at island, while their staff prepared breakfast.

"Mother, I swear" he said "I can't even step foot in Chicago" he knew from a few friends that CPD had a serious hard on for him "they think I shot that cop" he still hadn't filled his mother in on what went on in Chicago.

"Well, son" she said as she sipped her tea, "stay out of that city" she told him.

"Hey, where's your husband been" Ray asked hardly ever referring to him as his father, he had seen him beat his mother enough times that he had zero respect for the man. It was why he always felt so bad after he would hit Kim, but he just couldn't help it.

"He's off somewhere" she said "you know I don't ask too many questions, Raymond" she didn't care where he was as long as it wasn't home. So many times she thought of leaving him, but that would mean walking away from the lavish lifestyle she was used to.
