STUDENTS FROM USC were having a little get-together at one of their houses, and they invited Alec and his friends. They even invited Jeremiah and Roxy to come despite not attending USC, but they were welcomed. Having spent the whole day yesterday with Amelia and the new baby, he needed to spend time with people his age again.
Alec and JJ had met Ben in their dorm, as he had lived across from them at USC. Having heard they were from LA, he invited them to the get-together, which they accepted. So, the group was sitting around the house with Ben on the couch and other chairs, and everyone talked and laughed. With drinks being passed around, only a few of Alec's group have Alec, JJ, and Roxy included.
"Yo, Ben, can I have some of your Gushers?" JJ asked from the kitchen, rummaging through the cabinets.
"Yeah, sure," Ben shouted before a second later, JJ walked into the living room with Gushers in his hands and sat down.
"How are you having a snack already after we just ate?" Jeremiah asked, and JJ gave him a weird look.
"Gushers is a candy. So I count it as a desert." JJ argued.
"It's a snack," Jeremiah stated as Alec sighed, knowing where this was going with the two.
"Oh no," Alec said, confusing Ben and others in the room.
"Here we go again." May chuckled from Alec's lap as Roy shook her head.
JJ shook his head, "Chips are a snack. Are you saying Gushers and chips are in the same category?" JJ asked.
"So fruit snacks are candy?" Jeremiah asked.
"Yes," JJ said, making Jeremiah's eyes widen.
"Gushers are literally right next to fruit snacks in the store," Jeremiah said. "Directly next to it."
"Oh." JJ yelped, making everyone jump and laugh. "We went to Kroger, and the Hawaiian rolls were right by the goddamn baby strollers. So is now a Hawaiian roll a part of a baby necessity?" JJ questioned.
"If one drink and another drink are next to each other, are they not both drinks?' Jeremiah questioned back.
"What is happening?" Ben asked, and Alec shook his head.
"It's best you don't intervene," Alec said, making May and Roxy laugh.
"So you're telling me the milk is right by the eggs, so are they both milk?" JJ asked, and everyone looked at him weirdly.
Jeremiah gave the blonde a pointed look before whispering, "Where do you shop where the milk is right next to the eggs?" He asked.
"Are you nuts?!" JJ shouted.
"Where do you shop, JJ?" May asked, weirded out.
"If you shop and your egg section is touching your milk, find a new place," Jeremiah stated as JJ laughed.
"Oh, so the bacon is right by the Vienna sausages. Are they both bacon or are they both sausages?" JJ asked.
"Where are you shopping?!"Alec shouted as everyone laughed.
"Vienna sausage is not refrigerated. The bacon is by the sausage. Vienna sausage is on a shelf duration." Jeremiah explained as everyone nodded and agreed that JJ was not having it.
"The bacon is right by the Vienna sausage, and they're both not refrigerated." JJ shook his head.
"Bacon is not refrig-" Jeremiah shouted, shocked by JJ's statement.
"The bacon that I bought back when I lived in New York," JJ said, pointing at himself.
"New York makes so much sense now." Another girl in the living said as everyone nodded.
"What do you buy?" Roxy asked.
"The kind that comes in the box. You microwave it for fifteen seconds." JJ said.
Jeremiah shook his head, "That's still refrigerated." Jeremiah said.
"You're making me real mad," JJ said in a deep voice. Then, glancing at everyone in the living room, JJ asked, "Okay, time out. Whenever you're getting your chicken breast, is that refrigerated?"
"Yes," Everyone answered, and JJ's eyes widened.
"Where. Is he? Shopping?" Ben asked, looking between Alec and Jeremiah, who shrugged, shaking their heads as the others laughed.
"You guys are pissing me off." JJ chuckled as he shook his head.
"We're pissing you off?" Ben wondered.
"If you're buying warm chicken breast, you need to sue the establishment that you are going to." Jeremiah said as he laughed.
"No," JJ said.
"Yes!" Everyone shouted.
"You guys just don't get it." JJ shook his head and went back to eating his Gushers.
As everyone is laughing at JJ and having a good time together, Alec notices one guy off to the corner. Ben, introduced as Erik, looks angry. He looked as if he didn't want to be there or didn't want anyone in the house, and Alec couldn't tell which one it was. Alec knew Ben had shared the house with Erik but figured the guy was cool with the little get-together. However, by the look on his face, he wasn't at all. Alec was about to say something to Ben when Erik dramatically rushed out of the room and into another, slamming the door behind him and making everyone jump.
"Is he okay?" Alec asked Ben, who signed.
"Erik's a bit uptight. As he puts it, he doesn't like people disturbing his silence and peace." Ben shook his head. "Don't worry about it. I'll talk to him later."
"Okay," Alec said as he ran his up and down May's back, and they gave each other a look of concern.
But instead of dwelling on it, the couple focused on the group wanting to have a relaxed time with friends. It's time to be kids again and just be free of the stress of school and deadlines for projects. It is a time to just be themselves without people keeping a sharp eye on them and not be embarrassed or fail at anything.
