EMOTIONS weren't something Alec had trouble with... sometimes. Sure, he had the tendency to keep his emotions in and hide them from the people he cared about. But other times, he healthily expressed them, as he's supposed to, as Dr. Jackson said. But before Alec can genuinely express his emotions, he has to think them through.
As he does, Alec becomes overwhelmed before he expresses his feelings. Overthinking was Alec's number one quirk and is usually the first thing people notice about him once they know him. Alec didn't mind it, though, as he's used to it, and when he does, it helps him see his problems in a different light. Plus, if his overthinking gets too out of control, Alec has the best people around him to help him through it.
Some things, though, set off Alec to truly become overwhelmed, like his mother and, recently, his father. Seeing his father at the mall potentially freaked Alec out, and seeing him up close at Amelia's house made it worse. But when Miguel showed up at the 118 firehouse, it set Alec over the edge.
Alec was a little upset with Amelia for telling Miguel where he'd be, but he felt the man may have manipulated his sister to tell him. Knowing that Amelia used to be close to Miguel when she was younger made Alec understand why she wanted him and Miguel to talk. She wanted her family together so she could feel that it was less broken than it was, and Alec understood that. He constantly wishes his family wasn't so broken.
He wished his mother was alive and well and happy with someone who loved her. He wished his father, who truly wanted him from the start, not when he was an adult. To have known of his sister from the beginning and have been in Oliver and Susannah's life from the start. Alec wanted all that but knew it wasn't possible, no matter how much he wished for it. So, knowing Amelia meant well, Alec was at her house so they could talk.
